Looking back towards Queenstown from the Crown Range mountain pass. Check out that twisty mountain road!

This cloud is what cancelled our Milford Sound flight

This is also the road to the Cardrona ski field

You don't see too many of these... it's an HSV Avalanche :-)

...parked next to it - a Holden SS Ute :-)

Lake Wanaka. And moving swiftly on...

What a fine pair

Took this one for Hannah :-)

Yes, that's right, it's a Spitf...

NO IT'S NOT, IT'S A HURRICANE!! Don't they teach people anything any more? ;-)

Look at the undercarriage folding direction (inwards into the fuselage), upper engine housing shape that curves down to the propeller. Hurricane!

Rolls Royce V12 Merlin engine. The black lump on the left of it is the supercharger!

Somewhere to dump your load and head swiftly back to base

Anti-aircraft gun

Rear end of a de Haviland FB5 Vampire. Don't stand here if it starts up

What to do if we get invaded. Contains the immortal instruction, "Hide your food and your bicycles."

Forward canopy position! Hurricane!!

September 4th, 1939.

Wing shape!! Hurricane!!!

The Vampire from above

THAT, dear readers, is a Spitfire. Oval, forward sweep to the wings, canopy position almost behind wings, straight line from the canopy base to the propeller (you can see that even though the engine cowling is removed), and the undercarriage folds away outwards into the wings. How hard can it be?
