Sarisbury At Lord's

By Ray Hammond

Epilogue: The Hammonds' Renault Scenic, heading home

I drove about 500 yards down Barnes Lane before it dawned on me that I had drunk a considerable amount of wine and was totally unfit to drive! Seriously, it hadn't even occurred to me! Fortunately we always have our teetotal son available, so I was able to pull over and announce "You have to drive Keith" He and I swopped places but before he could drive off, I had to show him the routine for starting up, foot on pedal, press button etc, which was unknown to Keith as this was a new car. In the middle of all this, Pete stirred from his drunken slumber and asked "Whassappenin then?" Penny replied "Keith's driving" Whereupon Pete theatrically rolled his eyes and declared "Were all gonna die!!" Keith, irritated, told his brother to shut up and Pete went on "We're all doomed!" before going back to his drunken slumbers. While he slept, the rest of us laughed as we set off home.
