Match Report

On a day that started off pleasant enough we were batting 1st. Me & Graham opened up looking to continue our good starts for the team, but with the score ticking over nicely Graham played one to point in the air misjudging the pace of the pitch. In came PJ who looked comfortable until gloving a short ball behind, next was Reeves & Sam Floyd who both played some nice shots but got themselves out trying to play over the top and this pattern continued with most of the others batsman, all playing nice shots but getting out trying to go over the top and hit out. I believe 8 of our wickets were caught out. Score, I got a very slow 33, Matt and Joe both had little cameo's, think Matt had 4 scoring shots and got 20! Our innings ended 172 all out, although short of what we could have got, it was still a defendable total.

We needed to bowl tight at the start, but they got away to 5 an over off the 1st 10 overs with a mixture of a lot of luck, some loose balls & a couple of good shots. Les picked up the 1st wicket caught at slip with the score around the 50 mark and we thought we had a chance. We then went on to put down 4-5 chances, none easy, 3 of which were caught & bowled chances and this cost us. With the game slipping away matt brought himself on with Dave, who both bowled well, creating chances, but as the rain started to come down our chances ended, Matt needing to slow down to keep on his feet and dave struggling to hold the ball. As they were above the run rate we stayed out and did manage to collect an extra point or to. They chased our total with 5 wickets down. It was no disgrace losing to the top of the league but we all felt that game was there to be won. On the plus side was nice to see Jake bowl a few good overs at the end in difficult conditions, must have been the training! Joe will be better for the overs under his belt, looked a little rusty after only his 2 league game of the year and dave, Matt looked good. But for us to start winning a few more games we need to find some more runs to give the bowlers a chance to build some real pressure, don't think we have got over 200 for a month now. So need to build those partnerships again.
