Match Report
What could be the last league match for this talented colts cohort ended in a victory by 47 runs.
On a morning that was pretty chilly at times, an entertaining match started with a calamitous run out in the 2nd over as Sam Floyd departed for his first single figure score of the season, 9. Matt Spicer and Fraser Moon then set out on a steady 2nd wicket partnership of 73 in 9 overs, Fraser bludgeoning a few fours and Matt stroking the ball around nicely. An all run four took Matt to 21 before Hambledon's best bowler spun one past him for a stumping. The ebullient Fraser reached his half century with his 6th four but from a position of 96-2 off 12 overs we struggled to kick on to a really big score with only Tom Farley, after looking edgy early on, striking well to record 28 not out. A final total of 132-6 from 20 overs included three run outs but took only just over the hour, a very healthy over rate from the Hambledon side.
Sam Floyd started with a maiden and, with the score on 2, Fraser Moon despatched the opening bat with a vicious swinging yorker. Hambledon never looked in the hunt though they batted competently enough. Ollie Challis had one caught off a no ball but Tom Farley benefited from a fine low catch by Jordan Waller. Runs were hard to come by thanks to some astute field placing and good fielding supporting the bowlers, the score only reaching 52-2 after 12 overs. The next 26 balls saw 5 wickets fall for 7 runs, wickets to James Kershaw, Jack Cranston and Tom Farley (2-14) again and Will Jacobs running out two batsmen with direct hits. With the game settled and the smell of barbecue already wafting over the ground, the action became more light-hearted but Sam Floyd snapped up a caught and bowled with his last ball. The numbers 9 and 10 played out the final over from Tom Hopkins with three near-wickets. Final score: Hambledon 85-8.
A great season in which only Portsmouth and Southsea beat us.
