Match Report

The Rose Bowl B side boosted by the late inclusion of Sammy Freemantle took on West End Saints on Monday night. Losing the toss we were invited to field and what a difference a fortnight makes.

Matt Reeves, the unlikely bowling hero from our last game opened up with one of the worst overs since Dave Agha had played. It went for 19 including 2 dot balls, luckily their batsmen didn't know how to play Keith and his 3 overs went for just 13 runs, helped by some very good fielding from Matt and Sam. with Steve Roberts and Myself picking up 2 wickets apiece the opposition finished on 149 for 5. wides and no balls making up 36 of their runs.

with an intake of youth in the side, Sammy and Matt opened up and were instructed to "get the running going" as we were sure that we could reach this total. Sammy retired at the end of the 8th over with the score on 78, not what we were looking for, but then I decided to have a go, hitting the next over for 21, retiring off the next ball, my 7th. Robbo, Keith and Hannah sacrificed their wickets in the vain attempt to get Matt running, he eventually retired in the last over, and with Sam and me left high and dry falling just 11 short. We were helped by 35 wides, I was going to make a point of mentioning Kelvin's opening overs for West End but he went for more than Keith so I won't.

we need to learn that running threes of nearly every ball is the proper way to play indoors, once we master that the rest will be easy.

One wit did mention that it took Matt nearly 11 overs to score as many runs as he gave away in his one!!!! :D
