Match Report

Losing the toss, (not very good at this) they elected to bat on what looked like an absolute road. So it proved, they posted a daunting 252-4. Thought that was only competitive going by how good the wicket was. We bowled very well, had them at 159-2 at the 35th over. That means they scored 93 runs in the last 10 overs, which was to prove crucial. Matt and Les bowled well first up, Les having 2 catches dropped and one dropping short of slip. Matt bore most of the bombardment at the end of the innings (12-1-71-3). Their score was largely thanks to a certain Oliver Knight. Scoring 120 off just 89 balls proving that he should be challenging himself at a higher level.

Batting has started to click, mainly down to Clinchy's awesome 85. After losing Oz in over 2, Clinchy and I put on 44 in 9 overs until I was out LBW (25). With Sam and Matty supporting Clinchy the target looked on. With Sammy going for 20 i was still confident. The big over came in the 31st over. Both Matty and Jason falling in the same over was a massive blow. Even with Clinchy still going good, it looked tough. And so it proved, in the 35th over we had 176, needing 77 to win. Sounds good, big problem was that we were 8 wickets down. Maybe if we had had a few more in hand, I think we would have done it!

Bondy

Another match report!

Bondy lost the toss and we were asked to field by the Vospers captain.

Our opening bowlers Les and Matt bowled a very tidy line & length to the batsmen who found it hard going to start with on a very good batting pitch. Their no 2 finally played on in the 10th over off the bowling of Matt. Their no 3 looked to play his shots from the first ball but was held in check by Matt. After 7 fine overs Matt gave way to Tom and in his 2nd over managed to get their no 3 to mistime an off drive and Ozzy took a good low catch, this brought to the wicket Ollie Knight. We know Ollie well and knew we had to get him early because he can score runs at an alarming rate. All this time Les was plugging away with his line and length bowling and nipping the ball around; and it wasn't long before Ollie couldn?t resist making a big shot against Les. All he managed was to get a top edge to midwicket but unfortunately Danny couldn?t quite manage to grab the chance over his shoulder running round from mid on (maybe 20 years ago). That was the last chance he gave and was the start off a very big stand (132) between him and the opener. Les finished his spell bowling his 12 overs for a respectable 0 for 45,Tom also finished a fine 5 over spell with 1 for 30. Unfortunately Ollie was now into his stride and began hitting out, one over (and his last) from Danny costing 18 runs (should've held onto the catch). Matt came on for Danny but had his figures ruined by some mighty hitting. The partnership was finally broken by a catch at long off by Danny off the bowling of Matt, a well deserved second wicket, but it wasn't the one we would've liked because it was the opener and not Ollie. It was another 46 runs before Ollie (120) finally gave a second chance when he was caught by Bondy at long on. Vospers finished on 252 for 4.

So the Sarisbury innings started with us needing a run rate of 5.62 on a batting track that was still very good, but we lost Ozzy in the second over without us scoring, bowled by a good in-swinging yorker. Bondy was looking good with one extra cover drive off their opener right out of the top draw, great shot. A partnership was starting to form between Bondy and Clinchy until Bondy was adjudged LBW (a little harshly imo). As each over passed we were falling behind with the run rate and it didn't help with our batsman getting starts but not being able to go on to make a telling score with the exception of Clinchy who batted with skill and determination for 85. With 10 overs left we required 79 runs but had lost 8 wickets. That was the last wicket to fall on the day and I decided to bat for points with only Dan Millward and Les to bat in fading light. This decision by me seemed to upset the fielding side but we came off at the end of 45 overs with our maximum batting points and stopped them from getting maximum bowling points, who's to say if it'll make any difference at the end of the season, time will tell. We finished on 205 for 8, not the most exciting finish but overall there were some positives to take out of the game and we were beaten by one man getting a hundred in quick time.
