Match Report

Losing the toss again (thats 100% failure at home this year), put in on what looked like an absolute road again. 250 was needed to be competitive. First over was interesting from Les. 2 edged through the slips for fours, 11 off. The early breakthrough came in the 2nd over. Danny O'C needed just 3 balls this week. Having P Buckingham caught at first slip by Matty. Rotherwick then put on a good partnership of 57. Les getting the breakthrough, getting S Guye Lbw on the fall. Rotherwick were looking pretty well set at 108-2 after 26 overs. Then came the big over from Jason. Bowling there skipper Swift for 12 (after bowling of a no ball earlier) and then bowling Bowen very next ball. Matty carried on his good bowling form. He bowled with real pace and got some excellent bounce out of the wicket. He got his deserved wicket when Terry drilled one to Tosders at backward point, who took a very good catch. Jason took another Lbw, they had lost 5 wickets for 38 runs in 11 overs including a run out for Clinchy. Jay took the 8th wicket bowling Vallis in the final over (74 from 121 balls). He bowled really well, so confident he was, he decided to start with a handicap (first 2 balls of spell both went for 5 wides). A score of 185-8 was never going to be enough on that deck.

And so it proved. Despite a slowish start, we knocked the runs off pretty comfortably. Matty and Clinchy batting superbly together. Myself and Sammy opening up, put on 21 in 9 overs. Pretty happy with that start. Sammy being bowled by Bowen. I followed next, again getting a start and then getting out, Lbw for 20 with the score on 36. Ozzie followed next. Hitting the ball onto his boot, which then rolled back onto his stumps. Bowen had bowled really well, his first spell was full of pace (8-4-7-3). Then came the onslaught. Clinchy and Matty destroyed there change bowlers. Both peppered the boundary, 18 fours and 6 sixes between them. They put on 102 in only 14 overs. Clinchy departing caught behind for an excellent 58 (66 balls). In came Tosders who has been struggling a little this year. He duely dispatched his first ball down to long on for four. Played in! The pair of them only required 4.1 overs to knock of the required 44, Tosders scoring a run a ball 11, which will do his confidence the world of good. It included a beautiful cut for 4 off Bowen. Matty was the star again. No slogging, just beautful cricket shots. 79* from only 51 balls, 68 in boundary's. 186-4 after 32.1 overs, we were looking at 300 if we'd batted first.

Big game next week. Gosport away, who are going pretty well at the moment. This next run of games will shape our season. Maybe a promotion chase could be on our hands if we carry on playing how we are at the moment. Just need an opening partnership to click.

Bondy

Another match report!

On a warm sunny day skipper Bondie's first magical decision was in losing the toss and and being put into field, all his players were very impressed by this cunning plan, not!!!!!!

Les and Danny opened the bowling, for me opening with Danny was a surprise, as Bondie has many other options for bowlers, but Danny's accuracy and bounce he got for a spin bowler did work a treat.

Of the two Danny looked the more threatning and got his early wicket with one that bounced and taken at wide slip. Whilst Les was not so threatning, he does offer the skipper control and never in his 11 over spell did the batsman get seriously on top of Les.

Danny wheeled away for 9 overs and he was very unlucky not to pick up more than his early wicket. Edges dropped just short of fielders, miscontolled shots never quite went to hand, a very impressive spell by Danny.

When les and Danny were replaced by Mat and Jason Rotherwick were on about 70-2 off 20 overs. Rotherwicks no 4 a big big lad stayed threre for most of the innings, he was out in the last over holding his team together with a sound knock of around 80.

Jason the left arm around spinner bowled a fantastic spell after his first 2 balls which went for 10 wides!!!!!

He bowled with control and ripped into the middle order finishing with 4 wickets. Mat bowled with heart and picked up a wicket in his 9 over spell and then Robbo came on at the end and should have had the big lad out but he was dropped in the outfield, not a difficult chance. That said the fielding was really good epitomised for me by Tossters who threw himself at evrything and also took a blinding catch for Mat's wicket.

Rotherwick finished up on 185-8 and at tea time the game was in the balance as we now that club sides always seem to panick when chasing in the second innings.

Bondie was happy with the bowlers, he thought they bowled exceptionally backed up by some good fielding, whilst I would not necessarily disagree we must be mindful that Rotherwicks batting line up looked pretty weak once you got past the first 4 batts.

The bowlers did bowl with control, to back this up 1 statistic worthy of noting is that from my end not 1 ball was bowled down the leg side in Rotherwick's entire innings.

Sarisbury went out to bat and from the start it was clear that Rotherwick were more stronger in the bowling department that batting.

One lad bowled a nagging line and length whilst the main strike bowler bowled with pace aggression and good lines.

Sam and Bondie opened up and Sammy never really got going as was bowled of his pads ealry on. Clinchy came in and played and missed early on against some impressive bowling but Bondie was next to go when he was triggered by the Umpire for 20( the umpire being me!!!)

Bondie played some nice shots and looked set for a big score after weathering the early storm but at his departure however, ozz came in and very soon he departed unluckily bowled playing the ball off his bat onto his foot and the ball rolled back to the stumps and dislodged a bail. At this stage Sarisbury were about 40-3 after about 14 overs and all of a sudden the target of 186 to win looked a long way off.

However, all was about to change when Mat strolled to the wicket and very early on he managed to time the ball very well and crashed a couple of quick boundaries to ease the pressure.

The strike bowler came off and the change bowler from his end bowled also decent lines but Mat and Clinchy carried along nicely ticking the scoreboard over with the odd single and twos and the occassional bludgeoning boundary.

Clinchy after his intial dodgy start began to raise his game in time with Mat and both were looking very comforatable. Sensible batting with both batters having the ability to punish the bad ball.

The impetus changed when Mat got into the change bowler in one over and struck a meaty 6, one of many, which the skipper who was their change bowler did not fancy and turned to his spinner, who has to be said was not a patch on Jason or Danny.

Clinchy got to his 50 first before falling victim to the spinner a thin edge to the keeper. May I say it was a pleasure to see the Batsman walk without the umpire having to give the decision.

Clinchy and Mat put on100 plus for the 4th wicket a fantastic effort by the lads.

Tossters came in next and promptly dispatched the first ball from the spinner to the boundary with his customary power!!!

The skipper on the fall of clinchy's wicket brought back his strike bowler, correctly imo as the only chance Rotherwick had of winning was by dislodging Mat.

Whilst Mat played some wonderful shots against the other Bowlers he also took a liking to Rotherwicks best bowler after initially played himself in.

At drinks 30 overs Sarisbury were well placed at 140-4 needing another 46 runs to win. In the first over after the drinks break Mat let loose on the spinner and hit him for 3 sixes in the over and you could see the energy visibly disappear from the fielding side.

Tossters and mat saw the side home from there on with plenty of overs to spare, Mat got to his 50 and beyond finishing around 70 odd not out and Tossters 11 not out.

Sarisbury won by 6 wickets with overs to spare and picked up 23 useful points as well.

In summary as my first game for the seconds watching at close quarters the standard of OUR cricket was very high, intense at times alittle too much chatting on rare occassions but all of Bondies men were a unit and fought for everything. Bondie skippered well and any aspiring youngsters who want to progress would fit in well with Bondies leadership.

Cracking game well played everyone.

Yet another match report!!!

On a very hot and sticky afternoon Bondy lost the toss and we were asked to field. As with last week Les and I opened the bowling, this wicket looked like it would be a good batting track, with more pace and bounce than last weeks. Les managed to find the edge a couple of times in his first over but they went for fours to third man, my third ball managed to find the edge and Matt took a sharp catch at slip. The pitch offered a bit of assistance and in one over the other opener edged behind between the keeper and slip then top edged to safety and then was dropped off the last ball by Teflon Dan ;-) ; I was a little upset and may mention that the odd word was said in frustration. Both Les and myself just bowled a tidy line and the batters didn?t seem to want to take any chances and any loose deliveries were saved by some excellent fielding especially by Paul (Jonty) Tosdevin. Matt replaced me and was straight onto his line and length and Jason replaced Les after a few more overs. Jason started his spell with two wides that both went for four, so not the best of starts. The bowling remained tight and the pressure was starting to build on the Rotherwick batters, and with pressure the chances stared to come with Jason bowling one of their men but it was a no ball, it wasn?t too costly a mistake, getting his man soon afterwards and then following that up with getting the incoming batsman for a golden duck. Matt picked up a wicket from a good catch by Paul Tosdevin at point, all through this their number three was looking secure although wasn?t able to find the boundary. Steve Roberts replaced Matt to bowl at the end and Jason continued to the end and for the second week on the trot finished with 4 for forty something.

We required 186 to win but the pitch and Rotherwick?s opening bowlers made it difficult for Sam and Bondy. Sam was first out, bowled, which brought Clinchy to the crease who took a bit of time to play himself in. Bondy was looking more and more comfortable starting to drive the ball through the covers and mid wicket. Unfortunately for him and us he was adjudged lbw just when the runs where starting to flow. Clinchy continued to nudge the singles and kept the scoreboard ticking over, Ossie had joined Clinchy but never getting into his stride although was a little unlucky with the ball rolling back onto his stumps and dislodging one bail. Matt was next in and continued with where he left off from last week, punishing any loose deliveries. The second string bowlers didn?t have the same control as the openers and runs started to flow more easily with both batters hitting maximums. This partnership broke the back of Rotherwick but Clinchy did finally get out for a very good 58 and Paul Tosdevin continuing where his fielding finished with a confident batting performance to see us home. Matt was the star with a brilliant 79 not out off 51 balls that contained some really big sixes. Again it was all-round good team display but next week should be a real test.
