Match Report
To say I have been a little worried all week is an understatement. I
shouldn't have. Despite losing a load of batsmen, this week we were packed
with bowlers. Thought I would play our strongest hand first. So on a
boiling hot day, I won the toss and decided to have a bowl. Few people were
not happy! Doing this, we had to get into them. So decided to leave the
ecconomical Les and replace him with big Mc. With Matt and Sean paticularly
fast, we got into them. Having them 30-4 after 15 overs. Matty had grabbed
3 wickets and Sean 1, although he deserved more. Danny O replaced Sean, and
was his usual boring self. His first 3 overs yielded 1 wicket for 0 runs!
In fact, the first runs off of him was a 6! Matty finished his spell,
bowling 12 on the bounce for awesome figures of 12-4-17-3, a great effort in
the heat. Replaced with Les. Glad I didn't open with him today. He was
wicketless in his 7 overs. However, he only went for 8 runs! Had to take
him off for being too ecconominal!!! Same can be said for Dulux. Despite
getting another wicket, they were not overly interested in taking him on.
Robbo replaced Les, and Jay, Danny. Finally, they decided to ty and take
us on. Jay struggled without his spikes, unable to get any sort of
consistency. Sean came back for a 3 over burst at the end. He grabbed a
couple of deserved wickets. To show how quick he was, I took a 'catch' at
first slip that deflected off my arm into my gut, and into my hands. It flew
off the bat! They closed in the end for a painful 111-9 from 45 overs!
Batting was never going to be easy. The pitch was a proper country wicket,
slow and low. Myself and Tom opened up after some eye catching performances
in the 3's. Both started comfortably until Tom got one that jagged back
through his gate. I was out next, bowled by a low jagging one and we were
31-2. Matty came out, hit some crunching shots (again). He then done
something that no-one could quite believe. Matty shouldered arms and was
bowled. Don't think we'll see that again! Ozzie then tickled one to the
keeper we were looking ok at 66-4. Dulux played some very nice shots until
he was adjudged LBW with 10 runs left to get. Jay then went an finished it
quickly. He played probably the shot of the game, with a dead straight six,
to finish the match. Pj batted superbly at no.3. Having a good mix of
attack and a solid defence. 20 points was a great effort which keeps us
well in the hunt to go up.
