Match Report

On a roasting day, decided it was about time to lose the toss, considering I haven't lost it for a while. They decided to have a bat. Opened with Big Mac and Tom. Matty duly responded by getting the opener out in the first over, Jay taking the easiest of catches at mid off. In Matty's second over, he bagged two more. Jay took a senational catch at second slip (now that Pj had arrived). This was a seriously good catch. Jay has told me all year what a good fielder he is, shame he peaked in the final game of the season! 3rd wicket was bowled, Matty bringing one back through the gate. At this stage they were 12-3. Now we should have pushed home this advantage. But we didn't. We let them (pretty easily in the end) get to 74 before the next wicket. Les replaced Tom after 4 overs. He bowled his standard line and length. Being slightly unlucky with a few catches this year, he bagged 2 wickets in an over, both falling Lbw. After Matt's 10 overs (3-45), Danny O came on, spun one (yes, spun one), and bowled the guy who offered no shot. Danny then grabbed another on, Matty taking a superb one hander at slip. Les popped up and grabbed another 2, bowled and caught. Les bowled really well, taking a seasons best 4-28. Danny denied him the chance for 5, bowling the last guy to make them 108 all out. Although being surprisingly flat in the field, our fielding was top draw. We took some great catches and the ground fielding equally as good.

They were a lot better bowling side. Butler getting both openers, Sam caught at gully and Pj caught behind to a juggled catch. Clinchy and Matty done what they have done all year, score runs looking pretty comfortable. Clinchy getting a piece of bad luck to finish the season, bowled playing a pull that hit him and rolled onto his stumps. Thankfully that was the last wicket. Matty finishing 45 not out, knocking them off in the 23rd over.

All in all, a great season, 4th place finish is a superb effort. Who knows, if we had bothered to turn up vs St Cross, it may have been better.

Cheers guys

Bondy

Another match report!

Well the final game of the season has arrived and so did the sun, it was a beautiful summers day, perfect for cricket and batting first but some things don't change and Bondy LOST the toss as per usual.

So bowling first he went with a new opening partnership with the new ball Matt from the school end and Tom Clark from the pavilion end. Matt had 22 wickets coming into this game and it wasn't long before that turned to 23, in his first over, with the ball stopping a little and their opener chipping the ball gently to mid off where Jason took a straight forward catch. Tom's first two balls were hit for four, the first over pitching and was driven then next he over compensated and was cut. He came back from that well and bowled with control if not with menace, we must remember he is only 15 and still learning his game, I have no doubt the match winning performances are just round the corner. One more thing I should mention is that his fielding has improved 200% over the course of the season he made a great stop at extra cover where the ball popped just in front of him and a bit later on had a run out attempt that just missed the stumps at the non strikers end. Back to boring McKeever, his second over produced in my opinion the catch of the season; Jason at slip pluck the ball out of the air after a full-blooded drive by their number 3 had found the edge. It went fast and head high to his left, wow! The batsman stood there in disbelief for a few seconds. Matt picked up a third wicket, bowling the guy with one that nipped back through the gate and it clipped the top of middle. In the mean time Les had taken over from Tom and settled into his normal line and length, it must be good for Bondy to have a bowler like Les, he throws him the ball and you know where to set a field because you get that good line and length every ball. Sexton were staging a bit of a recovery, they had survived to drinks. At drinks Bondy got all masterful and told us he wasn't impressed; we'd gone to sleep in the field after being in a great position. It did the trick and a few overs later Les struck twice in one over two LBWs. I came on at Matt's end and bowled their opener with my first ball, I beat him with pace, (lack of it) and the cry of Dulux could be heard as my first over resulted in a maiden also. Les and I continued bowling with Les picking up two more wickets to finish with four and I finished with three, we had bowled Sexton out for 108.

So 109 to win and to pick up maximum points we had to do that without losing a wicket. Sam and Phil opened and found it difficult with some accurate bowling and it took four overs before the first run was scored. Sam was first out caught with one that popped a bit, that brought Clinchy to the crease needing just 46 runs to have 500 for the season. Phil was next out and so Matt went to the crease, we now had our two biggest run scorers in the middle and what a fitting end to the season for the two of them to finish the season with not outs. They have been by far the most consistent batters for us but alas with Clinchy on 31 the bowler bowled a short ball that just didn't arrive, to say that he was early on the shot was an under statement, but the ball hit him on the body rolled down hit the back of his leg and onto the stumps. Bondy came in and he and Matt finished the game off.

For me personally I had a very enjoyable season and I'd wish to thank everyone I've played cricket with over the season.

Danny O'Connell
