Match Report

We bowled 1st, Matt & Les opened up and after 10 overs they were around 27 without loss. Both bowled well but we couldn't get a breakthrough although we had some hard chances put down and plenty went past the bat. Eventually we got one out Les getting 1 of the openers out caught at mid on. We needed to try and push on and get a few more quick wickets but it never happened. The middle 25 overs we lost our way, no one bowling that badly but not being able to get enough pressure on to get the wickets we needed a bad ball always seemed to come along at the right time for them. With 10 overs left they were around 175-2 and looking towards a very big score. But with les and Jason bowling straight and putting some pressure on at last wickets started to fall and we restricted them to 230-8 in their 45 overs, well short of what they should of had in the postion they were in.

5 overs were lost to the rain at tea so a reduced target of 209 off 40 overs was required to win. Me and Sam opened both of us started to get going but then I tried to hit another 1 over the top and lifted my head up too early and was out before 10 overs had gone by. Clinchy came and went after hitting a few nice shots and the pressure was starting to mount up. Phil came in at 4 and took the attack to them hitting 26 in 15 balls before being bowled, Matt came and went quickly. Jason came in at 6 and with him and Sam looked like they were going to need to get a good partnership to get us close. Sam reached his 50, batting very well again, only to get out next ball and Jason got bowled hitting out and it left too much for the others to do, we were eventually all out for 159.

Disappointing defeat as it was a side we could have easily had won against on another day. Positives of the game: Sammy batted well again and the way we fought back at the end of their innings. VT next week so a toughie but more than capable of beating anyone on our day. Just need to get back to getting those partnerships going again with the bat and creating the pressure as a bowling unit.
