Match Report

On an overcast day with the odd drizzle Vospers won the toss and chose to field. Ozzy and Flower opened [in place of Sammy rushed to the first team] against good bowling. They both worked very hard against possibly the best bowling we had faced. It was slow but they put on 60 odd with Ozzy first to go for 37 off Luke Charrett one of the quicker bowlers in the league. At this stage Olly Knight was bowling an excellent spell of off spin. He got Clinchy, Reevesy and Flower, the latter for a seconds best 37. There were no more big partnerships and Vospers worked through our batting only Matt M managed to stay around, Olly Knight ending with 6 - 36. We ended on a low score of 135 all out.

We knew bowling and fielding had to of a high standard if we were to win. Matt M bowled a very good opening spell bouncing out their captain caught by Dan. We then had to wait a long time for a wicket. Matt dropped a simple caught and bowled and Mark Boriani playing very well and looked like taking Vospers to victory at 76/1. After Les and Matt the spinners came on. Me and Jason both got lots of turn and were causing problems. Jason got their number 3 out which started our fight back. Ollie Knight came in and decided to smash me out of the ground and Flower took an excellent catch by the net. In my next over I took a caught and bowled. Jason took another wicket and it was game on. While this was happening Boriani was still in and completed an excellent 50. I was replaced by Matt who bowled just was well as his first spell. Jason completed an excellent spell and was replaced by Les. Matt got a clean bowled and soon afted Les got the big one Boriani caught by Sam Floyd for 73. It was vital. If Boriani had stayed in Vospers would have won. There was a run out and another wicket for Les. The last over came, Les bowling. 3 runs to win, 9 wickets down. Second ball Les yorked their number 11 and we were just home by 1 run. What a great effort in the field. The bowling was our best all season and we could have won more easily if we had taken our catches. This result showed we can compete with the best teams in County 3. Well played boys!
