Match Report

Sarisbury seconds maintained their unbeaten run with a narrow 9 run victory at Hartney Wintney to gain maximum points and make it six wins on bounce.

Batting first after being inserted PJ and Andy Evans made a solid start before Phil was caught for 12 with the score on 39. Sam joined Andy and made a typically brisk 19 before he was out quickly followed by Andy (22). When Reevsie (again batting without the dog) was run out for 0 following a mix up with Alex Sarisbury were teetering at 68-4. Dan joined Alex but was out for 10 having again got a start - something Jumbo didnt get, being bowled first ball. Welcome back Jumbo. This left the score at 87-6 and Sarisbury in real trouble. However one thing the seconds don't possess is a tail and with Dave Agha joining Alex a partnership began to form. Catches have and always will win matches and Alex was riding his luck eventually being dropped four times. When Dave was out for 16 the score was a more respectable 122-7 with work still to do. For the second week running Alex was the dominant force in the main partnership of the innings with Danny O giving good support. When Danny was out for 30 late on the score had reached an unlikely 213-8. Late hitting from Alex who ended unbeaten on 93 supported by Toolie got the score up to 242-8.

A good tea but Sam F must be reminded of his Tea duties as junior member of the team again failing to get one for the Scorer. Next time it will be a fine!

With Jason having to leave the match at tea to attend to his ill Son, Alex took control on the field. Both HW openers played freely and looked dangerous early on scoring at a good rate. DannyO then got one to bite and with the opener out of his ground Dan did the rest. 39-1. Danny then got a smart C&B quickly followed by Sam catching one off Jumbo to leave the hosts 41-3 and seemingly with a mountain to climb. However like Sarisbury HW were always scoring at a healthy rate despite losing wickets at regular intervals. Alex then took a great catch off a huge skyer to give DannyO his third wicket and when a fired up Toolie also got a good C&B it looked like Sarisbury were going to hang on to their catches to win the game. Cricket is never that simple and the HW batsman were all getting starts and chipping in. Dave Agha bowled his usual steady spell picking up 3 wickets, one bowled and a catch apiece for Toolie and Dan the Hosts were now 172-8 with plenty of overs to go but running out of wickets. This soon became 196-9 and the game looked in the bag. However complacency is a dangerous thing and when Reevsie dropped a sitter off Alex and Jumbo a more difficult one on the boundary Sarisbury had given their opponents two lifelines at the worst possible time. Confidence began to grow and with some big hitting from the last pair they had incredibly put on 37 for the last wicket and got within 9 runs of an improbable victory. With plenty of time available and only singles required the HW no 9 decided he was going to get a move on and skyed one to Jumbo at mid-off off Alex who held the catch to get Saisbury home by just nine runs.

Sarisbury bowled well maybe bowling too many four balls, the wickets being shared around. A really close game and another fine victory for the twos who remain second in the table by just one point.

Glad to report that Jason's boy is a lot better today and his temperature has gone down. Jason's temperature has also gone down having been kept informed of the later stages of the game by Lyn on the mobile!
