Match Report
The seconds' luck finally ran out as they lost their unbeaten record to Andover at Allotment Road. Luckless again with the toss Andover elected to bat first on again looked like a good batting track.
Toolie produced a fiery opening spell and was rewarded in his second over when he had the opener caught behind with the score on 15. Andover proceeded to accumulate runs at a steady pace against some good opening bowling. The next breakthrough came with the introduction of the spinners with Danny O getting two quick wickets aided by the catching of Graham & Dave A to reduce the visitors to 71-3 in the 20th over. Despite dropping a couple of catches generally the fielding was tidier without ever being spectacular. When Dave Agar had their nos 4 & 5 out quickly it looked as though at 103-5 Sarisbury might be through them and into the tail but a good partnership developed for the sixth wicket which ended up putting on 71. Jason eventually getting both players out one caught in the deep by Sam F, proving he has one of the safest pair of hands in the club, and the second by Fras atoning for his earlier drop. Late hitting saw the Andover innings close at 189-7, the wickets being shared by Danny O, Dave Agar and Jason ending with two apiece and Toolie with one. A disappointing 17 wides where bowled.
Without the usual openers Jason opened up after tea with Graham & Dan M. After blazing three quick fours Graham played all round a straight won to have his timbers disturbed. Next over Dan hung his bat out to dry to get caught behind for 2 and Sam F was unluckily run out by Alex to leave the hosts on 23-3 but with plenty of batting to come. A good partnership began to develop between Alex and Reevsie despite some dreadful running and plenty of arial shots. Alex then suggested he had used up a lot of his luck last week when he holed out at mid-wicket for 28 thus bringing his average down to a rather dissappointing 105.50! With Sarisbury playing as if this was a T20 game rather than a 45 over match Reevsie, who was riding his luck, was joined by Big Mac after Fras had come and gone without troubling the scorers. Big Mac who was in need of a score, then holed out at mid on shortly after clubbing one big six and a four to leave Sarisbury teetering at 94-6 still going at 6 an over! Danny O came to the wicket hoping to restore some sanity to the innings but quickly returning to the pavillion after getting caught at mid-wicket for 4 after playing a truly awful and uncharacteristic hoik. Dave Agha was the only batsman to play sensibly but was unfortunatly yorked on 11. Jason was out second ball for 0 and when Toolie was the last man out also for 0 Sarisbury had lost their last five wickets for 26 to be 120 all out incredibly in only the 20th over.
A really dissappointing batting display. With the top six having an average age of only 17.5, although everyone very capable, it should have been left to the more experienced players to play in a less cavalier fashion in chasing what was a modest total. With some difficult fixtures still to come the seconds, who have dropped to 3rd in the table, must get back on track quickly if their season is not to fizzle out.
