Match Report
Sarisbury seconds saw their promotion push halted on a hot one at the Hollow vs Idlers.
Tooley was a last minute draft to the 1's meaning Fraser earned a late recall.
After losing the all important toss, it was no suprise to find us in the field.
The visitors scored quickly (not for the first time this season) despite Fraz bowling no.2 in his first over. Again it was the spinners who clawed us back into the game restricting them to 80-4, if we kept up the momentum then keeping score below 180 was a real possibility. However their no.4 Shepherd had other ideas, after patiently playing himself in for 15 overs he let rip in the final 8 ending with 93*, at least 35 of these coming in the last 3~4 overs. Again missed catches proved so costly after he was dropped four times after his 50.
Ags was by far the pick of the bowling returning 3-18 in 6 overs, and yes this was a big error by the skipper not letting him and Danny O bowl out their quota. To be honest the slower you bowled the harder it was to bat, and with the seamers bowling total of 21 overs for 132 runs and spinners 24 overs for 84 runs, it was a big mistake on my part.
Innings closed on 230-6.
Exceptional teas from Mrs Journeaux followed.
PJ and Evs opened and looked in no trouble despite constant and to be honest out of order appealing even when the ball hit middle of the bat. It was upto 5 balls an over at one point, ridiculous!!!
PJ (20) however did succumb to one of the hundred appeals and in came Sammy, short of runs and looking to find some form. The game then changed as there spinner Shears removed Sam and Evs for a patient 44. Macca was hugely overdue a score and was playing sensibly and well within himself at start, both he and Reevsy started the rebuild before Macca could not resist a pie from their skipper hitting it to longest part of the ground and being caught for a well made 49. It was their skipper who really turned the game as he kept bowling moon balls which nobody could master. Again we looked to rebuild with Butters and Reevsy (33) running particularly well making 2s out of singles and we only needed 6 an over from last 20 with 5 wickets in hand. However the tail failed to wag and we were all out for 199 in 43 overs.
I got it wrong and their skip got it very right with his bowling. They were no great shakes as a bowling team but he changed them at the right times.
The defeat drops us to 5th with 3 games left. Still in our hands as we play third placed Rowledge next Saturday. However unless we start believing, this season will have been a real anti-climax, with the recent weather we have now gone 5 weeks without a win, a run that must end at Rowledge.
