Match Report

Poachers played at the Green on a beautiful sunny day.

First of all can I say a big big thank you to Robbie Cooper, Bob Joyce, Greg and Olly for the work they did on the wicket before the game.

As a direct result of this they between them produced a good wicket which had a bit in it for bowlers and batters alike and this helped make it a tense game, thanks guys.

Greg lost the toss as is usual on a steamy hot day and was put into the field. I umpired both ends as poachers had no umpire.

Greg opened with Tom and Jake, they both bowled well perhaps Tom better although a few wides detracted a bit from their performance.

Greg brought young Dom on and he has certainly improved from last year and in his 5 over spell got 3 wickets, 2 were with not the greatest of deliveries but his pressure he put on the batters was rewarded, Dom consistently bowled a good line and length and with some sweet away movement well bowled Dom.

Clarke senior replaced Junior from the church end, or as Greg renamed it afterwards the Clarke end because only these two bowled from that end all innings!!!

Senior picked up an early wicket and Poachers were on the brink at 25-4. Then no6 came in left hander and made 44 putting on a partnership with the no4 and they took the score up to nearly 100. They rode their luck a fair bit dropped catches etc but Jake was recalled and in his second spell bowled excellently with absolutely no luck. He did pick up the 5th wicket though with yes you guessed it another slow ball.

Tom came on to replace senior picked up a wicket as well, at least he deserved and despite my attempts to persuade Greg to use Oz Olly came on!!!

5 overs later Olly picked up 3 deserved wickets and Poachers finished on 147 all out of the last ball of the innings with a run out.

Fielding was OK highlight was Graham Flower once again fielding so well and taking a beauty in the covers. Olly bowled well, sic, but it was a real pleasure to see 3 young bowlers bowl well on a decent wicket. Well done boys.

Sarisbury opened with young Tom and Oz, they got off to a steady start against some excellent Poachers bowling, Oz was out first to a half hearted shot caught at square leg.

Tossters came in next and never got going and was out ealry doors then young Graham came in timed 2 sweet fours before leaving a gate and was bowled by their best bowler bringing one back in through the gate.

Olly then joined young Tom and said if I stay here we win the game. He was right. Both Tom and Olly put on the match winning partnership only two players to get into double figures Tom went next though playing a tired shot after 24 overs out for 38. Well batted Tom.

Greg came in next and was out to a full toss. Olly was moaning about needing the Toilet!!! Stuart next in and was caught behind Then Ian Black making his debut came in and hit a useful 8 before he was out and with about 6 overs left Sarisbury needed about 20 to win. Jake came in next and swished and missed then hit 2 boundaries, to relieve the pressure, Olly tried to calm him down and very next ball he went bowled having a slog!!!

Senior came in and with Olly saw us home with 1 over left Olly 41 not out.

A cracking game played in a really good spirit, a lot of praise to the Poachers boys for this, and BTW their bowling attack was about the best or very nearly the best the thirds have faced all season.

Well done both sides and I would like to wish Poachers all the best for the future.

Gooders
