Match Report

Played at Whiteley. ( First things first, any chance the clubs comittee look at sharing this ground with Bursledon next year for our fourths?)

On a hot day Greg did the usual and loss the toss and fielded.

Opening bowlers were Jake and Mike.

Mike in his opening burst ripped open the Bursledon's front batsman taking 3 quick wickets all bowled.

Jake got in on the act and bowled one as well and after about 12 overs Bursledon were staring down the barrel of a gun at about 25-4.

Jake bowled OK but the star was Mike with pace, aggression and a fair amount of accuracy as well.

Young Sam replaced Jake and started off a little bit tentatively, which is understandable however he did get better in his 4 over spell.

Ian came on to replace Mike and promptly ran thru the Bursledon team finishing with 5-22. Mike came back after a spell from Micky which brought him no luck and claimed another wicket given out LBW by the Umpire!!!!

Mike finished with 4-20.

Mike and Ian showed this week that it is not just the young uns who know how to bowl and if it wasn't for an entertaining if a little lucky knock of 68 from the Bursledon opener Bursledon would not have got near to 117 all out in 31 overs.

On this hot day tempers got a little fryed on occassions, Greg was heard to plead with his team to allow himself to set the field ;-) Micky had a couple of drops and as Whiteley is a big field others possibilities of catches went missing as fielders were set too deep.

As there was plenty of time left and tea would not be ready until 5pm Sarisbury went out to bat for a dozen overs or so.

Openrs were Graham and Matt Reeves.Graham went for 2 with the score on 2 falling away trying to cut the opening bowler who was an off Spinner.

Tossters joined Matt and after a circumspect start against two decent opening bowlers Matt and Tossters began to play their shots. Matt in particular shined with some exquisite extra cover drives and Pulls and Tossters took advantage of fielders being in for the singles to go arerial and club some good looking boundaries.

At tea after 12 overs Sarisbury were 65-1.

After a very good tea ( hint hint Greg!!!) Matt and Tossters kept going before Matt fell to a top edge pull to the keeper. Matt scored 40 runs as an opener and he did look the part, now Matt needs to build on this.

Olly joined Tossters and it was Tossters who took over from Matt and launched a violent assault on the Bursledon bowlers.

Paul moved serenley to 42 before getting out caught and not before a little dust up with a Bursledon bowler for constant no balling, allegedly, and the umpire ;-)

Olly was joined by Mark making his debut and the pair of them needing another 26 to win were both outdoing each other in the art of BOYCOTT BATTING :-/

Eventually Olly woke up and decided that the art of the game was to put bat to ball and clubbed afew boundaries to win the game for the 3rds again, finishing with another not out 20 ;-)

Sarisbury won with 16 overs left and 7 wickets in hand.

The game was never in doubt once Mike had ripped apart the top of Bursledon's batting line up and although there was a period when the other opener got going and put on about 50 for the 6 th wicket once he went Bursleddon never looked like scoring enough.

Congrats to Greg and his boys another convincing win

Gooders
