Match Report

Nice sunny day wicket cut and rolled, cheers bob and paul.

I won the toss and decided because we needed 1 or 2 points to b sure of top six finish we would field. I cant forget curdridge. A few funny looks from the dressing room but as you will see i think i was right to be cautious.

After 4 overs they were 21 for 0 and my decision looked dodgy. The wicket was slow and both mike and jake were trying too hard it was suggested they bowl line and length. Jake got mr patey out straight away driving and edging to first slip. After this wickets fell fairly frequently all the bowlers joined in. Ian proving once again how good a bowler he is. Also it was nice to see fraser and martin get there first wickets for the thirds. In the end after a last wicket stand of 20 odd cowplain were all out for 83.

As tea was not ready we decided to play ten overs before the interval. The captain 'me' Told the boys 15 for 0 at tea would do, ten overs later 8 for 5 !!!. Mark caught at short leg tosders run out going for 2 at his age, oliphant junior missed another straight one, craig ditto and jake ' please give me a chance to bat ' Scott bowled by a good delivery. Graham and myself had a chat while the others blamed the wicket and ate the super tea provided by jake and family. We both agreed to stay there for the next ten overs and then see where we were. Both there opening bowlers bowled line and length with no bad balls but we did manage to survive and at the twenty over mark we were on 28. It carried on like this for the rest of the innings one close stumping and a few lbw appeals but generaly not too many problems. When there leg spinner came on he turned the ball as much as warney {take note keith} but his length was not allways right and we managed to push a few more runs. Graham was bowled by mr patey with the score on 80 mike came in and we got passed there score with about 4 overs to spare.

A few points jake bowled well his fifth over was one of the best ive seen, Graham batted with a maturity far exceding his years and its nice to see youngsters fielding well. But if you younger players want to push into the seconds and firsts you need to practice, our batting this year has been dire we only scored over 200 once and that was with oz and matt playing.

Still it has been an enjoyable season and i must say a pleasure to play in the side.

Lastly player of the month Senior Clark possibly leading wicket taker in the club ? if not very close not bad for an olden.

Andy O.
