Match Report

Sarisbury thirds' search for that elusive first win in regional div.1(south) continues after a 38 run defeat away at the hands of Curdridge.Having lost the toss,Sarisbury's Mike Edwards and Steve Roberts opened the bowling.Curdridge got off to a fairly sedate start scoring only 21 runs off the first 6 overs before being encouraged by the occasional short ball from Mike and Steve as they tried to lure the openers into a false shot (but the pitch was too good.)Captain Greg Horton turned to spinner Danny O'Connell and the brisk medium pace of Ian Clark to stem the flow. This they did as Curdridge fell from 50-0 after 10 overs to 76-2 off 20 with Ian and Danny taking a wicket apiece -Danny holding on to a stunning one-handed catch for his.The second wicket brought Craig Proctor to the crease and he proceeded to turn the tide with an innings of sublime quality. He scored a century off 60 balls before being caught on the boundary by Sam Floyd for 109,which featured 12 fours and 4 sixes. He scored nearly half of his teams 225 and was a class apart on the day.4 of the6 Curdridge batsmen were caught superbly with stunning catches from Danny and Robbie Cooper,a neatly snaffled slip catch from Andy Oliphant and a catch held in the deep by Sam.Unfortunately the ground fielding was not of the same standard(Greg excepted)

Danny O'Connell was sent into open in reply and he proceeded to carry the attack to the opposition. He hit 6 boundaries, mainly square cut rocking back on the back foot, before going for 40.There then followed a partnership of 90 between Andy Oliphant and Sam Floyd before Sam was adjudged lbw for42.Their innings both contained 7 boundaries with young Sam increasingly growing with confidence the longer he was out there. The later batsmen couldn't quite summon the same level of intensity and when Robbie Cooper was caught for 12,67 were still needed off 6 overs. It proved a tall order against a canny Curdridge bowler,Mark Emm, who was skilled at bowling a nagging length and finished with figures of 5-24 from 8 overs.

Despite losing,Sarisbury were bouyed by the application of 3 of their top order batsmen, all of whom reached forty but fell short of their fifties, on what was ,admittedly a good wicket. They will travel to Mudeford next week-end with some encouragement
