Match Report
The thirds beat Rowner at the Green on Saturday and so finally got their first win of the season.
Rowner are in the promotion chasers and in Kidd, Collins and Bowman fielded the engine room of their side that nearly got into County 1 not so long ago (what happened to that goofy Hoskins bloke?).
Lanedrs picked up an early wicket but Rowner passed 50 in 12 overs without too many alarms and a long afternoon in the sun looked likely. Then Robbo and Senior (less than 100 years between them) bowled a joint spell that did not yield a boundary in 18 overs and stifled Rowner's hitters. Robbo taking 3-28 in 11 and Ian 3-15 in 9. The Rowner tail wagged well and we were left chasing 140.
Fraser came and went quickly but Tosders then joined Mark Hansford in a partnership of nearly 100. The big league gap now is between the 3rds and 4ths but Mark showed what a capable player he is and whilst never being at his best his 31 was crucial. Meanwhile Tosders was at his belligerant best; cuffing the ball to the boudary and occasionally getting the bit of luck that had bypassed the 3rds this year.
Drinks were taken on 100-1 in 21 overs and inexperienced 3rd team watchers were plumping up cushions and enjoying the sun. Mark was out 3 balls later and as we all know no afternoon would be complete without the thirds struggling to reach an impossible target (41 runs in 21 overs with 9 wickets in hand in this case). The horror that followed is best forgotten but Greg held it together despite being unwell and his 16 not out proved decisive in a 3 wicket win.
