Match Report
Sarisbury thirds narrowly failed in their attempt to chase a target of 157 set by Bashley thirds at the green on Saturday(21.6.08).
Sarisbury made a positive start to their reply and at 62-2 after 15 overs, were scoring at above the asking rate. However, a combination of some uncharacteristic reckless shots by senior batsmen and laboured progress against Bashley's spinner, Simon Dean-who took 4-17 from 12 overs, resulted in only 11 runs being scored in 11 mid-innings overs.Graham Saunders did his best to breathe life into the run chase with an entertaining 38* off 46 balls as the tail wagged but Sarisbury fell 13 runs short of their target. It had been on the whole a good effort against a team who had won all their matches to date and the 8 bonus points Sarisbury took from the game could be of great value come the end of the season.
Earlier Sarisbury, having put Bashley in, beat the outside edge a number of times and openers Craig Raddon and Martin Lander were unlucky to go
wicketless in their opening spell.Danny O'Connell(2-45) and Steve Roberts(2-53) took 2 wickets apiece from 12 overs and 8 overs respectively while Ian Clark's 7 overs, which included 4 consecutive maidens, went for just 11 runs and helped build pressure.
