Match Report

Unofficial report because I'm not sure I will get all the facts right, head's a bit fuzzy! and Dan does a better job.

Ampfield won the toss and batted. We were confident the early news from up the road was good nothing could go wrong.

Team talk from Greg. Usual stuff we need to win it's in our hands lets go out and do our stuff. Also concentrate on our game not the one up the road.

Joe opened up and straight away showed why he has been missed this season beating the bat from the start. Jake came in from the tennis court end and backed up Joe very well. Their opener who scores most of their runs was the first to go big edge and an unbelivable catch from buckets Horton first of four for him. From then on wickets fell at regular intervals. Danny was briefly hit about by their skipper but made up for it later. Joe bowled well taking 3. Clarky did his usual job without the usuall wickets. Jake was better than he has been. And I think Danny ended up with 4 getting a few to turn. Robbo only got 1 but his first spell was top draw inswinging yorkers. Every week he has bowled well improving as the season has progressed well worth his place in the side. Ampfield ended up with 101.

Greg's Spanish tea went down well report from up the road chasing 204 already 1 down, let's do this and get up and cheer them on.

No, this is the 3s: nothing is that simple.

First to go Andy Evs bowled by the opener. Next Floydy caught behind. Out Danny cut straight to point. PJ superb straight drive out next ball trying to do the same 30 odd for 4 all the top batters out. Tension was mounting Joe joined me my advice get forward don't do anything silly. 1st or 2nd ball pull for 6! Myself and Joe put on a few and I thought we were beginning to get on top. Joe then tried one expansive shot too many and was out think we had about 50 then with 5 out. In came Tosders not in any form, I have to say we were in big trouble. After he had faced a couple of balls you could tell he didn't know how best to play, I think I just told him to plant his front foot down the wkt and hit it like he used to. Then I missed one and was bowled 60 odd for six Greg coming in with only one score under his belt back in June, I really thought we had blown it. Not at all it was as if all of a sudden Tosders had remembered how to bat again front foot moving well ball going to all areas, Greg doing what he used to do best not getting out. Game over relief all round.

Quick phone call to Bob it's getting close up the road surely the day is going to end how we all hoped. Didn't need to be on the phone, heard the cheers: yes, we had done it.

2 things to mention; Greg's keeping was excellent. Jake's catch in the deep was unbelievable, must be one of the best fielders in the club.

Rest of the the evening was the best experience I have ever had at cricket no other club can be as healthy as ours. Roll on next season.

Andy Oliphant
