Match Report

In the new improved promotion-chasing thirds Greg won the toss and batted. Yes he did. No really he did.

Mudeford struck early when Farls was bowled leaving the ball. Fras and Olly then batted fluently and we seemed very comfortable at 70-1 off 14. However after drinks, complacency seemed to seep in; Olly was caught at mid off for 28 and Fras then patted back a ball to be out for a classy 49. A good knock but a missed opportunity.

We raced along but both Tosders and Robbie fell for 13 and at 120-5 we were in danger of letting Mudeford back into the game.

However in strode Rob Carpenter. Rob has been one of the successes this season. He bowled us back into a game we were losing last week and this week he batted calmly and sensibly with Greg and took the game away from Mudeford; running aggressively (not easy as Greg was running passively most of the afternoon). It's been great to see Rob excel; not least because Rob is such a committed club man.

Rob and Greg put on nearly 100 until Rob selflessley holed out for a quality 44 and by the end Greg was 62 not out and we were 229-6.

Greg's excellent tea followed of tortilla and German cheesecake...

Mudeford started well but Chris bowled quickly and deservedly had their best bat caught in the gully by the omnipresent Carpenter. Les plugged away and had their no.3 LBW.

In truth what followed was not the strongest batting line up the thirds will face and me and Robbo recognised that with unseemly relish. I got 5-8 and Robbo 2-5: it's ugly, bloody work but someone has to do it. Mudeford ended 57 all out and the thirds changing room rang out with "we are staying up" by half past 6.

4 out of 4 and it's been a real team effort. Farls, Greg, Steve W have got 50s , Tosders got a ton and Fras has 3 scores of 40+ and Robbo, Les, Chris, Senior and Rob C have all bowled well. Come on Olly join the party!
