Match Report

A rather depleted 3rd team lost the toss and were asked to field against a very smart looking opposition.

Greg's team talk was all about enjoyment, we needed to get out of the habit of just turning up and winning enjoying the game is all that matters.

The Oldman, smiling all the time, opened from the tennis court end and hit the spot straight away. 'Joking' Jakey came down the hill getting his first real chance to show us what he can do.

Their openers looked good dispatching the bad ball to the boundary. After advice from Robbo, apparently, Jake struck taking both the opener and the no 3 in quick succession Les joined in knocking over the other opener in a very good 6 over spell. All the time the fielders were showing their obvious enjoyment of the game.

The 4 & 5 bats then proceeded to anchor down and despite some good bowling from Landers and MJB they held their ground and pushed the score along.

Robbo took over from Landers and produced another good spell of bowling taking 4 wkts. MJB bowled well and was unlucky with a couple of dropped catches. At this stage the enjoyment level started to wain but Greg gave a rellying cry reminding us all that we were here to have 'fun'.

198 for 9 seemed alot with our depleted batting line but Tosders and Mark Hansford set about the task with gay abandon.

Tosders went going for the big pull, Mark rode his luck a bit hitting a few in the air but we were on target, he then went caught and Greg joined Dave Mitchard who was 'smiling' while batting well.

Dave then got carried away having hit a couple of boundaries and was caught going for the big one.

Greg continued knocking the ball around and although we needed 8 an over with me at the other end it was still on.

Sadly I went caught and then Greg followed in the same fashion. Robbo being run out in between. The opposition's 'enjoyment levels were rising all the time.

Swish plundered a nice 4 before being yorked and it was left to Jake, Les, MJB and Landers to try and get us to 175 and another point, sadly we didn't make it all out for about 165 odd.

Very enjoyable despite the defeat!

Considering the amount of players we had missing for various reasons it was a good effort agaisnt a reasonable side. Much more enjoyable than the Bransgore, Curdridge or West Moor victories. One more batsman or bowler might have made the difference but well done to all those who did turn out today. Looking at most of us in the field its just as well we didn't all have fitness tests this week I'm not sure we would have passed.

Special mention for Jake 3 catches all top draw the boy is dynamite and good enough to field in any side in the club.
