Match Report Keith returned to form as the 3rd team beat Pompey under 15s* by 7 wkts. Pompey offered Greg the chance to bat "to make a game of it"; Greg put them in. Another Churchillian speach from Greg set us on our way. The Doctor in his opening spell was a bit rusty after his holiday lay off, the young openers showing good skills off their legs. Old silver back Robbo was his usual misely self from the other end. Wickets fell steadily but it wasn't until the recently discarded 1st team spinner came on that the game really turned in our favour. Keith ended up with 4 wickets and was very unlucky not to get more. The Dr mopped up the tail, PCC all out for 96. Teas supplied by Senior, plenty of egg. We started badly, Tosders and Charlie going early 12 for 2. The chairman came in, and after a chat from me about playing yourself in he promptly smashed a 4 and 6 before being totally bamboozled by the leggie and then bowled middle stump by the young quickie. We had about 40 at this stage and the young Pompey side sensed something special was on the cards, sadly for them myself and Dave Mitchard had other ideas. We didn't lose another wicket and won by 7 wkts. Although not a particularly difficult win it was nice to get back to playing after all the bad weather. 3 games to go 2 wins could see us promoted. Mention for Pompey they have a good bunch of young cricketers who played the game in the right spirit. The sledging was really good, chin music, toe breakers even Warney impersonations from the keeper very enjoyable. Special mention for Keith nice to see him back in the wickets and smiling again. Andy O * Editor's note: The Pompey team comprised one adult and a mixture of colts of varying ages down to U13. |
