Match Report
A solid team effort by the 4ths with 2 outstanding individual performances. Gosport got off to a flier (83 off 14 overs) but their top 3 were knocked over (all bowled) by Martin Lander. Their middle order then played positively and well but Ian Clark (bowling quite fast) and Derek Bruce (bowling quite slowly) gradually tied them down and wickets fell steadily. Martin got 2 more wickets at the death and Jamie Fletcher also picked up 2 wickets in 5 tidy overs. Martin's figures were 9-1-20-5. He bowled a consistent line and length and throughly deserved his first 5 for. Gosport finished on 132; a below par score but they were still in the game on a low, slow wicket.
Colin Billson and Mark Hansford opened and batted sensibly to put on 53. After Colin went for 16, Mark opened up with a series of cover drives and reached a high class first league 50. He was well supported by Ian Black (on debut) as they put on 31; Ian going for 10 and Mark for 54.
Mike Garner and Ian Clark then scratched and scraped their way to a 40-run partnership to close out the game.
