Match Report
Sometimes the other lot are just better.....
We lost by 125 runs to The Duck but played well. The Duck are probably the most
widely inconsistent team in the whole league and we were unlucky to meet them when
they had all their players available ( including 5 or so who would challenge for a
position in our seconds).
Their innings was dominated by 123 by Green who is one of the best bats in our
league. That only 2 other of their players got in double figure is an indication of
some good bowling under pressure. Martin Lander again bowling tidily ( 10-1-38-1 and
Dom Hammond impressed with 7-1-32-1). Ian Clark had them in trouble with 4 early
wickets but The Duck have strength in depth and the lower order gave enough support
to Green for them to total 208 all out. Ian finishing with 6-41.
The Duck's bowling was even stronger and most were agreed that P. Wood ( 12-7-11-4)
was the best bowler we had faced in this league. Nice chap ; afterwards Mr Wood
explained that he was a brother of one of the ducks and had come along for a workout
( next time could you workout in county 1/2 where you belong?) None of the top order
made many runs (although Colin ground out 14) but everyone stuck around gutsily. The
change bowlers were steady but not as good and Ian and Jamie Fletcher put on 42 for
the 9th wicket to graft us to 2 batting points (Ian getting 21 and Jamie 12).
Back to normality next week with Portchester 3rds before it gets surreal again and
we play Ventnor 2nds.
