Match Report
Played away at Wellow & Plaitford's village ground, this 40 overs match proved entertaining for the vocal crowd of supporters that witnessed this rather one sided Sunday friendly.
W&P won the toss and chose to bat first, which worked in their favour as their openers put on a 175 run partnership before Ollie Challis put out a hand to deflect a straight drive off his own bowling onto the stumps to run out the non-striker who was a yard out of his crease. Four other wickets quickly followed after this long awaited breakthrough with fine catches for Ian Black, Ian Stewart, wicket keeper Stuart Bruce, and the casual Jordan Waller at point, off the bowling of Rob Carpenter, Ollie, George Kimber-Sweatman, and Ollie, again, respectfully. W&P amassed a total of 288 for 5 wickets in their innings.
Unfortunately we were unable to provide our travelling band of supporters with a vintage display of batting skills that they so richly deserved, only Ian Black (20), and Ian Stewart (17) found any kind of form against W&P's talented bowling attack, George Kimber-Sweatman (14) did benefit from extra time at the crease as our hosts sportingly played 'last man standing' for the 11th batsman! We were all out for a very disappointing total of 76 runs at the end of the 24th over, room for improvement especially with our running between the wickets as there was a number of run outs in our innings, and to finish on a positive note the spirit in the side lives on!
