Match Report
Played at Burridge's Recreation Field Ground this 40 overs a side encounter proved to be one of our more evenly matched fixtures of recent weeks. I won the toss and chose to bat, our two opener's Ian Stewart (16) and Dan Millward (9) made a cautious start on the surprisingly damp, low and slow wicket for mid July, with Dan the first to go in the 10th over with the score on 33. I (34) came in at number three and tried to push the score along, with some success, in a good partnership with young Jordan Waller (6) who was running and calling well. Tom Hopkins (13), Stuart Bruce (15), and Rob Giddens (17 not out) then followed and added valuable runs to give us a final score of 137 for 8.
Our turn to bowl after tea, with five teenage bowlers in our side, plus the more experienced Ian Street, I chose to give everyone 4 overs at a time, this worked reasonably well trying to contain our hosts' batsmen, as you can see from the bowling figures there were some good economical performances with Tom Farley doing most of the damage as far as wicket taking was concerned, with three, and young Rob Clinch with the other, a caught and bowled in his last over, well deserved I might add. The home side did bat sensibly with 5 out of their 6 getting into double figures reaching the target with 3 overs remaining, and winning by 6 wickets.
This match was a credit to both sides, played in a good spirit, and again well supported.
