Match Report
This 40 overs 'local derby' match was played at Locks Heath, weather conditions - sunny intervals.
The Locks Heath skipper won the toss and put us into bat, as in the previous match Ian Stewart and Dan Millward opened the batting, unfortunately for us Ian (4) was caught in the 4th over, but fast scoring Sam Freemantle (33) and the impressive Matt Reeves (61) 'steadied the ship', and with Dan making a useful 19 and myself chipping in with 11, we reached 88 for 3 at the drinks interval. After drinks Ian Farley's calculated 45 not out, along with Matt, and in the latter stages of the innings Tom Clark's quick fire 19 not out took our total to a very respectable 212 for 5 at tea.
Needing over five an over, Locks Heath lost two early wickets both off Simon Grant's medium pace, one caught by Ian Farley at Gully, and the second clean bowled. Locks Heath lost a third batsman in the tenth over, with the score on 49, to young Tom Farley's left arm spin this time it was another senior fielder taking the catch, myself at mid-wicket! The Locks Heath batsmen then took control moving on to 133 for 3 at 'drinks', I don't know what was in our liquid refreshments, but, we then took 5 wickets for 12 runs, with Sam Freemantle taking 2 off his 1st and 3rd deliveries of his 4 over spell, Dan and wicket keeper Stuart Bruce the catchers, and our most economical bowler on the day Tom Clark also taking 2 wickets, the first a sharp catch by Matt Reeves at Point and the second clean bowled. The other wicket to fall in this 'purple patch' was a run out with Dan Millward reacting fast at Cover and wickey Stuart doing well to dislodge the bails. Locks Heath, on 147 for 8, with 15 overs left chasing 213 to win then batted very well indeed to reach their target with over 7 overs remaining with their number 10 scoring 45 not out, the phrase 'grabbing defeat out off the jaws of victory' springs to mind on this occasion, but taking nothing away from our neighbours they deserved the result on the day, winning by 2 wickets.
