Match Report

Played at Jones Lane, Hythe, weather conditions - sunny intervals, this 40 overs, 8 per bowler, was a bonus match for the 'B' side due to the inter club Twenty20 clash back at 'The Hollow'.

Our hosts won the toss and chose to field, our two openers, Ian Stewart and Ian Black, made a steady start against an accurate bowling attack, Blacky (8) was the first to fall with the total on 19, we found runs hard to come by throughout our innings with only a gritty display from the other opener Ian Stewart (14), and two colts, namely Jordan Waller (22) and Tom Hopkins (28) getting into double figures. The two youngsters did exceptionally well enabling us to see the 40 overs out reaching a total of 105 for 9.

With a relatively low total to defend we had to bowl and field very well to stand any chance of victory, Ian Street and Simon Grant started well with Simon picking up a wicket in his first over, a fine, catch by Ian Farley at Gully, an early break through, just what we needed. H & D's number 3 bat, and their other opener, then settled down and put on a partnership of 55 before another promising colt, Tom Farley, bowled the number 3 round his legs. We all tried our best in the field and the bowlers' performance must take a lot of credit, as they 'stuck to their guns' with the hosts closing in on the 106 total needed for victory. Yet another colt got in on the act with a wicket, Cameron Pye bowling a 4 over spell, deservingly took the third H & D wicket, with the skipper holding onto a 'once in a season' type catch at Point, with his last ball. H & D reached the total required in the 24th over, although we lost by 7 wkts, the match was enjoyed by all, and a big thankyou to our loyal band of supporters who really do make a difference at both away and home matches.

Colin Billson.
