Match Report

Amazingly, the wicket was pretty hard considering the wet weather of late. First bit of good news, Freddie makes a winning start at the coin toss. End good news, we fielded!!

Opened with a couple of new guys, young Tom Clark and Phil Jewell. Tom started really well. I have to say he bowled with a lot of intelligence, as he was getting a bit from the wicket, but never did anything but bowl a superb line and length. Jewelly started off a little different. New club nerves resulted in a rank long hop! He made up by knocking over the first opener. Tom carried on bowling his areas, maybe should have had a caught behind, Ray?

Tom was replaced by another newby, Dave Agha. Again nerves played a big part with some loose deliveries. He did get an LBW and bowled some cracking deliveries to show he is a good bowler. Jewell was replaced by yet another new guy, Ryan. He took a while to get into his stride and may be more of a bat than a bowler, worth a look though. Fred and Keith both came on. Both batsman were looking pretty good, hitting a couple of 6's to the short boundary. Fred clean bowled the other opener for about 50, then followed it up with a catch behind. Fred got his final wicket thanks largely to an unbelievable catch in the outfield by Simon. Having miss judged the ball, he flung himself backwards to grab the ball one handed. Jewelly came back and grabed another wicket, Sparsholt ending on a decent 200 from 40 overs.

Opening the batting was a new pairing, Colin Day and Simon. ALthough not really using the middle of the bat, Dayer looked as though he had plenty of time to play the ball, a good replacement for Lester maybe? He perished thick edging a full toss. Simon followed the same way for about 25, think he struggled with the pitch not being as hard as the Rose Bowl nets!

Pete played some delightful shots, before getting a leading edge. I came and went for a brief stay followed by Ryan. Freddie and new keeper Andy Reading (Otis) then put on a good little partnership. Andy hitting some lovely shots before getting out to another full toss. Fred and Jewelly fell, not until after Phil had hit a massive straight six. Tom and Dave A hit some late runs also, leaving Keith 5 to win from the last ball. Dished up a wide full toss, he was unable to put it away, losing by 2.

Overall, it was a good workout for a much changed side. Fred was able to look at the new guys and see what he has to work with.

Bondy
