Match Report

From your correspondent in the middle.

On a wet slow wicket Sarisbury 2nds batted first in a 40 over match against Locksheath at the Green on Saturday 26/04/08.

Sam Freemantle and a re-invigorated Phil Journeaux opened the innings and faced a very tidy openeing bowling attack.

Runs were hard to come by ( taking Sam 10 overs to get off the mark) however with a careful approach both openers took the sting out of the bowlers and began to pick up the singles.

Not only was the pitch slow but the outfield was awash with long grass making the scoring of boundaries, even for the Green, that much harder to achieve.

At the drinks interval Sarisbury were settled on 52-0 and Sam was the first to go soon after by playing an expansive shot against a ball that nipped back and bowled him.

Thereafter as proved batting for new batters was equally difficult, Locksheath's bowlers were naggingly accurate and Phil continued to play the patient game whilst both Ozzie, and Graham Flower went quite quickly without getting into their stride, Graham particuarly unlucky as being done by a yes no sorry call from Phil on an attempt to run a second.

With 10 overs to go and Sarisbury on approx 80-3 Phil opened up and played the agressive knock needed advancing down the pitch he dispatched Locksheath bowlers to the boundary with applomb.

Phil eventually went for 67 but with the score on 140 by the end of the innings Sarisbury in these conditions set and very very good score.

After Tea Jason opened up with Les and Shaun and the Locksheath batters had no answer to their accurracy.

After a 4 over spell from both Locksheath were left on 9-4 and the game was as good as over. Les once again showed his abillity to bowl decent lines and was worth his 3 wickets, but equally pleasing was Shaun, who with a shorter run up of late bowled with pace and also accurracy as he picked up the other wicket.

Young Jake, making his debut, and Matt replaced them and kept the pressure up, with Matt getting 1 wicket and Jake picking up 2. Add a run out in there as well and Locksheath were rocking at 15-8 off 18 overs.

Jason then decided to make a game of it by bringing himself and Danny on which helped Locksheath get up to nearly 50 before the last wicket fall and so Sarisbury 2nds start the season with a very good win.

Undoubtedly the match winning performance was from both openers Sam and Phil they played a perfect game for the start and both knocks would have been worth a lot more in normal conditions.

A special mention must also go to Jake not just for his bowling but also 3 catches the last being a corker to get the skipper his wicket (that will help his chances taking a catch for the skipper!!!!!).

As disappointing as Locksheath batted, and they did contribute horribly to their own downfall this win was thoroughly deserved by a side full of confidence and looking as prepared a team as seen for many a start to a season.

Well done lads.

Gooders
