Match Report
Well, what an interesting pre season for the 2nd Team. After rolling over Locks Heath for 54 last week, we destroyed a weak Vospers side, skitling them out for just 39.
Thankfully, they won the toss and let us have a bat. Opened up with Philly J and Ozzie. Straight away, Phil was bowled around his legs for 1. Jason came in at number 3. He and Oz shared a stand of 69 before Jay perished. He played some really nice shots for his 37 on a typical Vospers deck, low and slow. I was next in and I have to stay, really struggled. Think I toed everything, but at least I was getting in line!! Oz was next to go, his steadily crafted 31 ended via a caught and bowled. Big Mc came in and started in typical fashion, getting off the mark with a six. I went with 4 overs left, caught one handed in the covers. Matty carried on hitting the ball well, before getting out in a bizarre fashion. Try to smash the spinner, he ended on his ass hitting the ball to mid wicket. Danny O fell bowled trying to get on with it and Sean finished off by patting out the last 3 balls!! 180-6 (40 Overs)
Bowling was interesting. Les started off his usual self, naggingly accurate. Sean came from the bottom end and bowled within himself. But this was a good thing, bowling an excellent line and length. He got his reward by grabbing the first wicket, caught behind. Les grabbed the second, bowling Portelli after he tried to cut a half volley. Sean came off after a good 4 over burst (4-1-8-1). Jake replaced him and his first over was encouraging (although he bowled a slower ball that was no balled for bouncing too many times!!). Les finished his spell (6-3-5-1). Over the 2 pre season games Les figures are 10-5-7-4, not a bad set of figures! Jake grabbed a wicket in his second over. Bowled with yet another slower ball. Matty replaced Les, and after dishing up a half volley that was dispatched to the boundary, got 2 wickets in 2 balls. The first a regulation catch at first slip, the second caught behind by Millward. Then, in his next over, got another bowled before having a catch dropped. Had to take him off (2-1-4-3). Jake carried on bowling some decent stuff, grabbing another with a slower ball, caught Ozzie. Keith came on for Big Mc, starting with a full bunger. After that, he looked really relaxed, bowling 2 good overs. He got a wicket with one that turned (it did), but again had to remove him to get Danny O on (2-0-3-1). Jason had replaced Jake (5-2-9-2) taking 2 wickets while experimenting, both bowled including the final wicket (1.5-1-4-2). 39 All out (21.5 Overs)
To sum up, I.m a little bit disappointed. Although the batsman got a good work out, with everyone getting some time in the middle over the 2 games. Bowling however is a different story. A little concerned that the bowlers may be undercooked. No one really getting any decent spells under their belts. Roll on the season!!
