Match Report
Our visitors, Liss, won the toss and choose to bat on this sunny and windy afternoon, played on the artificial wicket, we made a good start with Craig Raddon and Simon Grant opening the bowling, the first wicket went down with only 3 runs on the board, a sharp catch by Ian Black at square leg off Simon's bowling.
Liss then settled down and scored at around 4 runs per over by the half way stage with us picking up 3 more wickets before drinks, Keith Hammond, our most economical bowler on the day with 2, and young George Kimber-Sweatman with the other. The Liss batsmen dominated the second half of their innings putting on a further 213 runs for the loss of 3 more wickets, finishing on 295 for 7, George picked up another wicket and fellow youngster Cameron Pye added 2 more off his 4 over spell, Dan Millward also bowled and was unfortunate not to get a wicket with 2 catching chances missed in his first over. Ian Stewart ended up with 3 catches and Simon with another, I was very pleased with our fielding in general because the team never gave up right to the end of the innings against a very strong Liss batting line up.
Being realistic their total was quite obviously a match winning score, so the plan was to bat out the 40 overs and reach a respectable total, which we did, Tom Clark carrying his bat throughout the innings ending up with 82 not out, he was well supported by the other opener Ian Black 11, Ian Stewart 22 who had a fine game overall, and myself chipping in with 22 not out, final score 180 for 6.
Another good all-round team effort played in a spirit we are becoming accustomed with.
