Match Report
We have managed to hold onto the Lord Mayor's Cup for another year after a 75 run victory on Sunday. Sarisbury batted first and piled up 263 mainly due to Sam Floyd (70) who continues to show his undoubted ability and Joe Humby (79) playing his first game for the club in over a month. Towards the latter part of the Sarisbury innings Joe was ably supported by Keith Hammond (25).
So with 263 to defend we were confident we could win! Landers and Joe then opened up and both bowled well and Landers picked up the first breakthrough. Tom Farley then replaced Joe and Keith replaced Landers. Despite the odd boundary ball Tom Farley bowled exceptionally well creating enormous amounts of both turn and bounce and was rewarded with two wickets. Keith bowled well but remained wicketless. by the time the two spinners had finished their spells the Mayor's team were about 160-4 off 28 overs but while the overseas Macdonald was still at the crease they were still in with a chance. Reeves then took over from Farley and Sam Freemantle replaced Keith. Within 4 overs of his spell the 'son of shayne' had picked up 5 Mayor wickets with his late in-swingers and had reduced the visitors down to 180 all out. Sam ended with career best figures of 5-12 and on claiming his fifth wicket proceeded to take his top off and run round the boundary much to the delight of the Mayor and Mayoress!!! Well played lads.
