Match Report

Home to Bramshaw.

On a dry but uninspiring day, (the cricket turned out in a similar vein), Neil did the obligatory thing all Skippers seem to be doing this season, he lost the toss and Bramshaw opted to bat.

This was the hightlight of the match TBH, because once Bramshaw's left handed opener was out very early on the die was cast for the whole innings.

Neil opened up with Matt and Joe and they did not have to bowl well to get wickets, this is not to say they didn't bowl well, they did, but I have not seen an innings played so consistently badly by a team for the entireity of their innings as Bramshaw's.

The left hand opener played a slog/drive to cover caught. The next wicket was a run out. Matt got the next wicket with a ball that nipped away off the seam 1 off possibly 3 wickets that were earnt by the bowler.

Neil came on bowled two overs got injured and brought Freddy on to replace him.

Keith replaced Matty.

Now Keith and Freddy did bowl well, Keith getting two wickets one to a slog and 1 that did bite and leave the right hander and take off stump.

Freddy got 5 3 were slogs 1 lbw and one gloved via the pad.

After 42 overs Bramshaw were all out for 82. Game over.

Lets make one thing clear this was not about the wicket but very poor shot selection by the batters. I am sure that Bramshaw are a lot better than what they showed yesterday, but in any ones language their innings was devoid of any thought, heart or application.

Sarisbury went out to bat and were in a ludicrous situation of not losing a wicket to pick up maximum bonus points.

Pete and Lester batted serenely to 55 before Pete went Chris came in next and saw of the remaining target with Lester for Sarisbury to win by 9 wickets with about 27 overs left at 5.15pm

As a spectacle and match this game has to rank as very disappointing, especially when some of our supporters WALKED all the way from Fareham to attend!!!!!

But our lads can take some points from the match. Bramshaw lost early wickets first 4 going very cheaply, it is the 4 in the top order that must take responsibility and set the tone for the remainder of an innings. You very seldom see a side make a good score when 4 wickets go early, but you do often see a good score when the first 4 batters make a good or even solid start.

So what should you do if you are in a pickle? Not what Bramshaw did, continue to play big shots, and badly, no you need to get the strike rotating, running hard your 1 and two's hit the gaps etc.

Anyway, the batting by us was good the bowling was good but the fielding was not up to standard, By my count 3 relevant easy chances went begging, and Bramshaw could have been out for 50 or less even.

In the end it did not matter about the 3 chances that went down, maybe the 1 bonus point lost, poss? but what the lads need to bear in mind against a top side those dropped catches could cost us a game in the fututre.

As for Bramshaw, I am sure they will play a lot better and that they were ring rusty, I hope they manage to stay up because as individuals they were a decent set of lads, but they need to learn from yesterday as much as we do.

Gooders.

P.S. Highlight of the day, and Bob will testify was Ray telling us about a good catch Pete took for Keith Last week the VERY BALL before Pete yes you guessed it, dropped a catch off of Keith!!! Bob and I did smirk, just a little, Ray says he will get his revenge if I write this bit into the match report, but I am sure as he is such a decent fellow he was only joking!?!!?
