Match Report

Mudeford came to town, apparently short of a few boys from last year. Still they finished second last year, you don't tend to do that with only 2 decent players. Toss lost, we got stuck in the field.

Tommy and Jewelly opened up. Tom from the pavilion end started on last weeks length (just short), but on this cracking wicket, hit was more hittable. However, he quickly adjusted an got some nice movement into 2 left handers. Jewelly started well also, but runs seemed to be coming rather quickly. Banfield was prepared to go after the ball pretty hard and without middling much, found the boundrary fairly regularly. Tom got the first breakthrough, a lovely inswinger that caught him lbw. They were still racing along, 50 came up in over 10. Tommy got another one by bowling no 3. Colin, Squidge and i were commenting on how he covered his stumps nicely, next ball, out bowled. Classic. Fred replaced Phil with Tooley. After being pretty unlucky not to get anything last week, he started off interestingly. 14 from the first over. Tom finished his spell (2-18), replaced by Dayer? I see Fred's idea, get him on while the batsman is hitting it hard, get smashed, never bowl again!! Only playing Day! Sean had kicked in to a new gear. Bowling his next 6 overs for 6 runs, getting 2 wickets. I grabbed one at slip, apparently looking cool, and he bowled there number 5. This guy (P Wyatt) came top of the batting average in County 1 last year and Sean gave him a good working over. Don't remembering him getting a run from him. Dave Ag's came on after Tom. Bowled a little short allowing opener Banfield to cut and pull too regularly. Fred on after Sean grabbed a wicket, caught at shortish leg by myself. They were still going hard, being 100-5 in over 21! Dave carried on wirling away, unlucky to shave the stumps and have a catch put down. Banfield hit his 100 with a six off Fred, (out of 140) before holing out to Pete of Fred next ball. Next was a frustrating partnership of about 50ish. There number 8 hit some massive ball. Sean came back to break it and then death bowler Jewell moped it all up with another 3!! 211 all out

Batting wise we were very confident.especially after Simon and Colin hit 30 in first 4/5 overs. Si looked good until he pulled a full bunger straight to fine leg, who took a good catch. Pete went in and got out caught mid wicket and i was strolling to the wicket at 30-2 in over 6. Dayer fell, again looking comfortable, before being bowled. Jock in, hit a few sweet boundrary's before i fell to Wyatt for 13 after getting myself in. Matt fell soon after and we were 5 down for around 80. then came the winning partnership. Jason on debut and Fred built a hundred partnership hitting the change bowlers to all parts. Jay fell for a classy 47 (after a bowling machine net mid week), Fred was joined by Jewelly. Fred made 50 then fell. had we blown it with 20 to get? Tom went first ball caught behind, it certainly looked like we had. But, Phil and Sean saw us home, Phil despatching a few boundrary's, winning with a few overs left.

So top of table, 2 wins out of 2. When did that last happen? Well done guys, we had are pants down twice waiting for a spanking, but we thought back hard. they were flying at one stage, but we kept at it, taking wickets and bowling them all out. BAtting wise, to win from80-5 was awesome. Bit dissapointing again 4 0ut of top 5 got starts, but didn't kick on. Never mind a win is a win!
