Match Report

So, our winning run came to a heavy end. Went to Locks Heath full of confidence and started by losing the toss. From then on, we got very little right.

We started off with Tom and Jewelly. Both lacked real control, we just couldn't cut out the wides and build any pressure. That said Phil knocked over the left handed opener (after 3 fours on the trot), bowling him middle stump. That brought out Alex Richardson, a guy we all know can bat. He showed this by scoring a hundred. They got to drinks for the loss of just 1 going at 6 an over. Dave A and Matty J couldn't build any pressure as 6 balls were never in the same place. Breakthrough came straight after drinks. Dave A getting his first wicket for the club, with the other opener picking Pete out in the deep. Dave's celebration was something else, off came his shirt running around. Toole had replaced Matty and produced a massive over. I took a catch at slip, he then clean bowled someone shouldering arms and then I took another catch at slip. A triple wicket maiden had possibly got us back in the game. While this was happening, Alex had moved well past 50. Toole got another in his next over with me taking a diving slip catch to bag my 3rd. then came there second partnership of note. They put on over 50, Boyd hitting a brisk 40 before hitting MJ down Tommy's throat.we finally ran Alex out for 120 odd and quickly finished off the tail for 291. We done well to fight back a bit, we were staring at a score well past 300 at one stage. Having said that, we did not bowl well, Sean exempt, giving away 43 wides. Efeectively we bowled 7 extra overs!

Still confident at chasing them down, Colin and Chrisy G started well before Chris fell popping one to mid wicket. In strode Pete and after 10 overs we were nicely positioned on 50-1. Then we slowed up as they got control of their bowling. Pete fell bowled for hig teens, followed by Dayer ct at mid on. Simon and Matt tried to rebuild before Si was bowled. I went in and the run rate was creeping up. We needed 10's when I holed out for 13 followed by Fred ct, Jewell run out and Matty. Dave and Tom then went about seeing what we could get, Dave Bowled with an over to go and Tom hitting some nice shots to finish not out for 28.

I have to say, I don't paticularly like Locks Heath. They never got a decision that went their way. They moaned, shouted and grubbled for the rest of the innings, showing little respect for Dave and needing to be calmed down by their own umpiring. This was disapointing. I love banter between opposite players, but when it's directed at umpires, I don't.

Having said that, we bowled very poorly, Alex batted well and they bowled a tighter line/length to the defensive field's. Never mind, we don't become a bad team over night, so lets bounce back next week against Andover. As the England 1 day team say - its all about bouncebackability!!!
