Match Report

So Fred won another toss and we decided to make first use of a rock hard wicket. Colin and Si opened up against 2 guys that were as young as our opening bowlers. They found some nice movement early on, so Dayer and Si reverted to some good running and putting the bad ball away. Made it to 30 from 10 before Colin fell trying to go over the top (13 off 33 balls). In came Pete, who had to play second fiddle to Squidge at first as he crashed 4 boundaries from one of their openers. Pete then tucked into one of their change bowlers, who went for 31 in 3 overs (good day). Both got into full stride as Pete hit 50 in 38 balls, producing a partnership of 117 in 18 overs. Si fell caught behind for 49 off 77 balls (after we had clapped his 50. Dave having a shocker, signaled 4 instead of leg byes). I came in, content on giving Pete most of the strike before he fell, bowled by McFawn (88 off 73). He had a good day with the ball, showing their was good movement off the seam if you put it in the right areas. Matty J came in and instantly attacked the seamers. We almost put on 50, again I gave the strike to Matty. I fell caught at long on for 15 (27 balls). Harmmy AKA Sammy Free came and went nuts along with Matty. They put an unbroken 89 partnership together in only 6.5 overs. Good running and some big hitting showed what wickets in hand can bring about. Matty brought his 50 up in 37 balls, finishing on 81* (49 balls) with Harmmy on 37 (24 balls). So 302-4 was a great effort, set up by a good 100 partnership by Si and Pete.

With the ball, Tommy and Sean opened up. Bob was moaning at tea that he was disappointed that he hadn't seen any batsman duck/swaying. Up steps Toolie. First ball whacks the guy on the shoulder. Tommy bowled a bit of a mixed bag. He wasn't his usual accurate self, although not being overly expensive. Sean got the first breakthrough, having Carter caught at cover by Jocky. Tommy bowled the other opener, and after their spells had gone, Bedhampton were 59-3 from 14. The 3rd wicket was interesting. The guy tried to duck another Sean bouncer, but left his bat up. the ball looped up to Simon for an easy catch. Jewell came on and struggled into the wind. Hovey took full advantage by hitting some good ball. Fred had come on and along with Keith built some really good pressure. Fred bowled excellently, so well I can't remember any runs coming off the bat in front of square. Fred got the big wicket of Hovey, deciding to try and hit him over the top, into the wind. Pete took an excellent running catch. Pete caught another at mid on off Keith, followed by a superb caught behind from Squidge off Keith. Fred then got one to bounce for another catch for Simon Keith got his 3rd, caught by Fred at mid off. Tom then came back to get the final 2 wickets, again caught by Pete and a superb c&b to fnish it all off. 209 all out.

So 24 pts for the second time this season was brilliant. Batting really fired. Simon and I reckon we have at least 4 scores of 300 in us this year, that's 1 down. Bowling was ok. The spinners built massive pressure and both got wickets because of it. I'm a big believer in spinners. If your openers can knock 2 over at the start, then the spinners can just put so much pressure on. We took all our chances bar 1 (a sharp slip catch to me off Fred), so practice really does work. Let's put together some big wins to get some serious momentum to go into the Liss game.

Bondy
