Match Report

Well, another tight game that we come out on top of. Knowing that Bramshaw are a good batting side, 300 was a must. In the end, we fell just short but it proved enough.

Colin and Si done something that they hadn't done all year, produce a 100 opening stand. After the pasting we got about not being able to build an innings they done exactly that. Simon fell for a fluent 53 from 80 balls (50 in boundaries) with the score on 101 in the 25th over. This opening stand allowed our 1d boys to go on a bit of a bash. Remarkably, Pete and Matty J both hit 50's from 35 balls, Pete out for 52, Jocky 60. Whilst this was happening, Colin brought up his maiden 50 (81 balls) followed by his maiden ton (124 balls). He really did book in, then tuck in but probably never quite got involved in happy hour, maybe a bit tired?? Despite being put down to a regulation slip catch, Col's new CA bat proved where he had gone wrong all season (using a rubbish Woodworm). Regularly using the sweep against the spinner (they never put a man back, despite him doing it 15 times with more success than not), Dayer ended up on 106*. The team had hit 294-3, all top 4 bats going past 50 and Pete collecting match fees for getting the lowest out score with 52!!

We knew Bramshaw would go after it, soon racing onto 96-0 at 16 over drinks with one guy retired hurt. Keithy got the first breakthrough. Despite only bowling 4 and a half good balls, he lured Hart into a mistake with a half tracker. Squidge did the rest with a comfortable looking catch in the deep. Fred grabbed the next one, caught by Pete at mid off. Keith again, half tracker smacked straight at Tom to remove the dangerous looking Warrell (62). The score then progressed to 160 off 30 overs, still well in the game. Fred got a double breakthrough, Sammy taking a smart running catch at point followed by a lbw. Jewelly then took a sensational catch off Fred to leave them on 179-6 from 34. then followed some really good hitting from Gray and Cooper, who put on 70 in 10 overs before Jock caught a skier to get rid of Cooper. The retired opener came back with a runner, the next wicket was needed quick. Up steps Jewelly, a 2 caught and bowled in 2 balls at the end of the 44th over left them with 40 from 4 with 1 wicket left, had we won finally? No! Arnold batting at 11 came in and hit a four, six, 1 and a 2 from Tom to leave 25 from 3. Jewelly only needed one ball to bowl the injured opener to complete a sensational hat trick.

So we won by 24 runs, tighter than many of us thought at tea. The batsmen showed that with hard graft early on, your big hitters can then do what they are really good at, scoring at a quick rate. Fred bowled really well and will be sorely missed over the next 2 weeks, still a chance for others to step up. Fielding was good, half chance were dropped, only 1 sitter from our sub fielder!! With hindsight, we probably should have passed 300, maybe even falling 30 runs short of what we could have got. Well done boys, great win pulls us a little further away at the top.

Great wicket by the way bob, only 1 bowled in the whole game shows how flat it is.

Bondy
