Match Report

Having lost the toss Sarisbury were asked to bat first and on what was a good track, but as expected a little damp after all the rain.

The new ball bowlers for Lymington took a couple of overs to get going and by then Col and Squidge had started briskly with punishing some loose deliveries.

With the score on 27 Col was out to a leading edge as the olden bowling from my end got one to hold up. In fact Squidge and Pete also got nearly done by the same delivery, but where as Colin was unlucky as his went to hand the other 2 were lucky in that theirs did not.

Pete came out and played circumspectly for the first few overs, which I for one applaud, as he showed determination not to let the last couple of low scores in an otherwise run fest of a season for him.

The olden from my end bowled his 12 right out and ended with figures of 1-41 which was an outstanding effort, a shame that the fielders and other bowlers could not support him. He consistently swung the ball away and hit the seam often to produce cut backs making him the 1 bowler worthy of mention.

However, Pete and Squidge over the next 30 overs went on and produced a partnership of just short of 200.

This was helped by an aging team who looked cumbersome and sloppy in the field remembering I think 6 chances in total missed with Pete scoring a bludgeoning 100 and Squidge an excellently constructed 87.

Both wickets fell and poor old Matt lasted only 3 balls before walking back to the pavillion with a duck to his name. Then came what for me was the highlight of Sarisbury's innings, a Stand of 80 odd for the last 11 overs with Bondy and Sammy.

The reason for the highlight was Sammy who went on to score his maiden 50 for the firsts, and subsequent jug of cider was appreciated by all, where were yours you tight fisted gits, Pete and Squidge!!!!, played himself in slowly and then with Bondy scampered and then assaulted the bowlers for a great final score of 313. Again the ageing Lymington side contributed to their suffering with poor fielding but nevertheless the Sammy/Bondy partnership as Freddy said afterwards would have been nice if we could have videoed it and shown the youngsters how you bat out the last overs in a limited over league game.

After tea the Lymington openers got off to a brisk start punishing some loose deliveries, Jewelly surprisingly being particuarly off line, however, Tom soon settled into his stride and finished his 6 over spell with 2 good wickets, one caught at second slip by the QUIET!!!! Bondy and another hitting top of off stump. The new ball in both innings did get some purchase out of this dampish wicket but the introduction of Skipper Fred showed what turn their was in the pitch, as he bowled with aggressiion and effort, this seems to be the best way of getting turn from the wicket.

The Lymington spinner from my end got no way as near the amount of turn Freddy got, largely because he just floated his deliveries whereas said Freddy got more revolutions on the ball.

Freddy got two wickets and Matt came on to replace Tom and after his spell at that end and then switching to my end finished with 4 good wickets.

It looked as if Matt put his back into it a bit more than of late, so his fitness has improved.

Keith came on and got his customary brace and in the end a disjointed Lymington were rolled out for 99.

24 points a finish very early and then news of the Liss result sent players and Fans alike into celebratory mode, and a few drinks were to be had... However, there is still work to be done, a further 5 points are needed from next week's game to secure top two spot and 11 points to be guaranteed the title.
