Match Report
Our second home game in a row saw us take on Bashley II. Fred won the toss and decided to have a bat. 7 overs in, that decision looked wrong as we slumped to 17-3. Myself and Colin then went about trying to rebuild our innings. We started off with some hard running, pinching a couple of quick singles along with making sure the bad ball was dispatched. We put on 66 before both fell in quick succession, Colin just before drinks (35 off 52) and me straight after drinks (36 off 65). Sammy Free arrived at the crease along with Tom. They battled well against some really good spin bowling. Bashley's 2 spinners bowled 20 overs for just 44 runs before Tom fell for 9 in a partnership worth 37 from 19 overs. He was quickly followed by Freddie and Radski and our innings looked like falling apart at the end (134-8). In strode Jewelly and together with Sammy put on 46 in 5 overs to see us to 190. Sammy finished on 56*. Interesting thing about Sam's innings, he had 24 from 66 balls but accelerated to get 56 from 87, a very well built innings.
So we had a target to bowl at. Tom changed ends and bowled with Radski. Radski bowled well again but Digby drove anything full to the rope. Tom bowled very well for his first spell with no luck what so ever (6-2-14-0). In that spell included the first wicket, run out from the boundary by Jewelly. He then came on at Radski's end, bowling a tidy spell (5-0-18-0). Pete followed Tom, bowling Digby in his second over follwed by Vaughan, caught by Matty J the next over. Pete's spell was perfect, 5-1-17-2 and at drinks they were 83-3, a good first 25. That became 90-4 as Radski bowled their skipper in the over straight after drinks. We felt we were on top, then came the turning point. Their no.6, Taylor, was dropped on 3. They then put on an unbroken 107 partnership, Taylor unbeaten on 30 and Maher on 81.
I think we missed Freddie's bowling today. The pitch was turning and playing up a little, a fit Fred could have exploited that. We done well to battle from 16-3, dissapointing that both Colin and I fell in the 30's after working so hard to get us out of a hole. Sammy batted as well as i've ever seen him bat, combined hard work with some good hitting to see us to 190. Tom bowled the best i've seen him bowl too. Figures of 10-2-46-0 didn't really do him justice. For next week, we really have to stick together and get the batting and bowling to work along side each other. The last 2 weeks have been bitterly disappointing for everyone involved.
