Match Report

Stallions were well beaten in the end by a Solent side that were very "up for it" before the game even started. Briefly the university are in the middle of the most successful run of sporting triumphs in their history. Soccer, American Footy, Badminton, all at a high level and they clearly wanted to add cricket to the list.

The first few overs were very tight with Tom and Jewelly not giving much and the two Solent openers determined not to lose their wickets. Stallions bowled a few wides but not much came off the bat. After 6 overs Solent were 54 for 0. The stallions' fielding was very sharp and aggresive and you really couldn't say who was going to get a grip on the game. However the Solent batters grafted to retirements and though 2 of their lower order were run out, the retirees came back and slammed Pete and Matt's last overs for 19 and 22 respectively. Jewelly's final over yielded only 8 (for a wicket) but the damage was done and 132 was definitely a competitive total.

Sadly it proved more than enough, Solent bowled straight and fielded superbly. Bondy and Pete were run out almost immediately and though Matt fought gamely, he struggled to get the two slow bowlers away. Simon looked good and Tom played some decent shots but they too were run out by some great pick up and throws by Solent. Finally Jewelly was stumped, leaving the Skipper 33 not out. from a total of 101. Stallions bowled 43 extras to Solent's 21 and Solent's 2 slow bowlers looked very accomplished.
