1st Team Captain's Report 2004

Well. Where to start?? The 2004 season was full of ups n downs, swings n roundabouts, yet in the end it turned out to be a successful season for the club, with the 2nd team gaining promotion and the 1st team staving off a relegation battle.

For the majority of the team, including myself, this season was a very steep learning curve from which we can all build on for next year, where maybe with an overseas and a newcomer or two, we will have a team who on its day we be capable of beating anyone in the league!

During the season there were many glimpses and signs of the performances we knew we were able of achieving, with maybe just a bit of experience lacking.

On the batting front, many players scored runs but not a consistent enough basis, good contributions from Simon Orr, Andy Evans and Pete Hammond who smashed 76* in 28 balls against Burridge.

Jeff Mckeever and Keith Hammond both bowled well during the season and Dom Ducellier as we reached the climax of the season was on top form with the ball taking 14 wickets in just 4 games.

Our performances stepped up a gear as August came on us due mainly to the arrival of three influential players, Shayne Freemantle, Neil Goodman and Phil Journeaux back from their travels and all three made an immediate impact. Neil scored 220 runs in the 3 games he played whilst Shayne took 4 wickets and scored 39 to make sure we saw off our friendly neighbours Locks Heath with ease.

Finally I'd just like to thank Dave and Penny who umpired and scored week in week out. Thanks to everyone for all your support throughout the season and I look forward to next year!!

Matt Journeaux
