4th Team Captain's Report 2007

Firstly I would like to say a big big thank you to Ian Clark for not only being at selection meeting every Monday while I was away but also dealing with all the changes that took place leading up to Saturday's match.

This was my first year as 4th captain and a very enjoyable experience it was too. I would like to thank you everyone young and old who played in the 4ths this year. As we all know the purpose of 4th XI is to help the young lads make that important step up from the colts into men's cricket and again this year I have seen young lads playing for us that will be 1st and 2nd team players of the future. In 2006 Tom Clark was destined to go [who knows how far] and this year I feel Martin Lander is on the same course. With Martin and Dom Hammond opening the bowling most weeks it gave us a good start as they would regularly bowl the first 10 over for 20/25 runs. The batting honours were shared around this season with good regular contributions from Colin Billson, Mark Hansford, Stuart Raddon and Ian Clark.

I have played league cricket for many years now but I found it difficult to comprehend how the team can change so much from one week to another but I suppose that's life in the 4ths. I have never played for a club with such a marvelous colts set up and a tribute to Les and his team.

To finish mid table was a good result when you consider there were 3 sides in our league that would have given Sarisbury 2nd XI a good game

Mike Garner.
