Sunday 'A' Captain's Report 2008

Well, what a season it has been for the club. On the Sunday cricket front we have comfortably been able to put out two teams and on occasions even three which shows the growing prowess of the club. A reason for this dramatic change around has been due to the increasing number of colts keen to play Sunday cricket and tribute must go to Les and his team of coaches for their hard work with the colts set up.

A number of the youngsters who played on a regular basis included:

Sam Floyd - who scored runs pretty much every week as well as his scoring his maiden century innings of 108* Vs Trojans which is a terrific achievement for a boy of 14.
Tom Hopkins - continued to improve throughout the season and I am sure is a big talent for the future as he continues to develop.
Ollie 'spin king' Challis - also showed his potential as he bowled well and took wickets on a consistent basis.
Matt Spicer - was another regular who again put in some very decent knocks as well as looking tidy and compact behind the stumps and I am sure it won't be long till he climbs through the adult Saturday sides.

There were of course many others who played throughout the season who included, Jordan Waller, Rob Clinch, Fraser Moon, Cammo Pye, Will Jacobs, Billy Taylor, Mikey Cooper and the list goes on.

Simon Orr was back to playing more regularly on Sundays and hit some fine knocks included a well timed 90* against local rivals Portchester.

As always, the prestigious games such as the Mayors game and presidents game were scheduled. The Mayor's game saw Sarisbury victorious again with Sam Floyd (70) and Joe Humby (79) the main run getters as we amassed a total of 263 all out before bowling out the Mayor's team for 188 where Tom Farley (2-63) and Sam Freemantle (5-12) the chief wicket takers.

The Presidents game unfortunately was abandoned after the first innings where Sarisbury had restricted a star-studded opposition to 204.
This summer also saw the inaugural interclub Twenty20 match between the Slogger Vs Slappers. The Sloggers came out as victors with Michael Bond (54) and Keith Hammond (3-20) including the wicket of his brother, were the main performers. It was a great day with concluded with a curry at the club afterwards.

Looking forward to next summer, where hopefully a few more Twenty20 interclub days will take place on Sundays which will no doubt add to the excitement and buzz around the club.

Finally thank you to all those who played, officiated, made teas and worked on the ground to make yet another successful season possible.

Sunday 'B' Captain's Report 2008

Firstly, well done to the Saturday 1st Team and the under 15s for their achievements this season and good luck next summer.

The Sarisbury 'B' Sunday side played a few more matches than we were originally scheduled for. As the results show, we were not too successful, but where we gained was to give a large number of colts an insight into adult cricket and many a time they stole the show with some good individual performances.

There were also a number of more experienced players whose support and enthusiasm was second to none. The four Ians - Stewart, Street, Farley and Black - Richard Azar, Simon Grant, Dan Millward, Stuart Bruce and Keith Hammond to name a few. We actually played 13 matches, winning 2 (Cheriton and Hedge End) drawing 1 (Hursley Park) abandoned 1 and losing 9. We played 3 at home and 10 away and both our wins were at the hollow.

Playing a large proportion of our games away was again a good experience for the youngsters, especially as we played on grass wickets rather than the artificial at the hollow. Regularly playing against some top class opponents, whom I might add had nothing but praise for our side commitment and team spirit, win lose or draw, we had a lot of fun!

On a serious note we did have a bad experience at Bealieu, the collision near the boundary between Tom Farley and Dan Millward was scary to say the least. Tom being hospitalised was a reminder of what can happen on a cricket field. Thank goodness they both made swift and full recoveries, a big thank you to the members and officials of Bealieu Cricket Club for handling the situation so well.

The following list of colts may well progress through the playing ranks in the next few years as Tom Clark already has. Rob Carpenter, Jordan Waller, Rob Clinch, Tom Farley, Ed Ruff, Will Jacobs, Cameron Pye, Ollie Challis, George Kimber-Sweatman and Tom Hopkins, they all played their part in the team this year. I would also like to thank our travelling band of supporters; they were terrific, helping out where they could and also Keith Hammond who skippered the 'B's against Fawley and Willow Tree while I was away on holiday.
